"The UK government is to seek the lifting of unexpected Brexit controls in Northern Ireland, including checks on pets crossing the Irish Sea and a ban on British soil entering the region in potted plants from English garden suppliers."

Unexpected...did they not read the agreement?(silly question)

Also....live shellfish exports now banned indefinitely to the EU due to rule we helped write as part of the EU o_O

Government probably wishing they'd put in some sort of backstop to buy some time to figure out what to do at the Irish border.

Described as Dante's fifth circle of hell.

Still, could be worse, could be the 8th circle along with the current government ;-)

Do borders cause as much trouble in other parts of world as they do in Ireland?

Yes. Maybe not so much borders always but regions.

Think of borders between Mexico and US. Cyprus. Armenia and Azerbaijan. Crimea. And obviously Israel and Palestine. And there will be plenty more that I suspect Scoff will come along and share with us shortly ;-)

People, its always people. Whether its about creeds, colours, religions or land.

There's also rifts between India and Pakistan and then you look at certain religious groups persecuted/controlled in China and Myanmar. It probably happens in some form (though not necessarily violence) in most countries. Even consider that Belgium is split between the Walloons and the Flemish.

    In some places yes
The really annoying thing is we solved the Irish Border problem in the 1990's Leaving the EU was always going to be a problem for this - as was pointed repeatedly. There were solutions - staying in the single market the obvious one - or at least the customs union. Mays withdrawal deal solved it . Boris took out the solution for his "improved" deal and here we are. This was always going to happen one Boris took out the backstop.
Its amazingly obvious - there has to be a border somewhere, and its either between NI and Eire or Between England and NI

The idea this is a surprise to anyone who looked at this is bizarre

Oh and to those who say we were fine in the 70's - Northern Ireland most certainly wasn't
