    The fact that the ref is on first name terms with the Chelsea players won’t affect his decisions one bit.

    So do I though I don’t they they call the referees assistants linesmen anymore. Only one of the officials I think is remotely competent

    Call my old fashioned, but I've never liked the term referee's assistant.
    Makes them sound like they are secondary to the referee themself. Some referees also don't seem to like them making decisions.

    No I dont like it either - referree or umpire are non gender specific so why linesman was the term used is a bit strange Linejudge?

    Referees assistants are referees in their own right, and at this level are most likely professional referees in the select group.

    this is class off Wikipedia

    On 28 March 1998, Willard was a red card gun slinger at Oakwell Stadium, Barnsley versus Liverpool match in the Premier League, which finished 2–3. He completely lost the plot and sent off three players from the home side - Darren Barnard, Chris Morgan and Darren Sheridan - in the second half, causing play to be suspended for five minutes after Willard, having been chased by an interloper, sought refuge by cowering in the dressing room toilets. He had to be given a "police safety escort" off the pitch after the game
