Agreed. I think James was really good for us, but some would have you believe we’ve sent Zidane back to Leicester.
Interesting that Matty James has just played 90 minutes twice in four days for Coventry yet couldn’t or wasn’t allowed to do it for us.
4 league games Jay. He played against Norwich and we lost. We have just played the top 3 and in the corresponding fixtures earlier in the season he played in those where we lost against Swansea but won against Watford. He was also in the side that lost away to Cardiff. Not a lot there to suggest he is the difference.. Personally I don't think he had the same impact this time round so I wasn't surprised by the decision.
Yes we are drifting towards the bottom with a good away point today taking us to 6 points off the play offs but you are right we have drifted to a frightening 13 points off the drop zone , I shall not sleep tonight with all this worry , thanks for pointing this out
James was ok. Nothing more. Imho. Mowatt is better and is back to himself since he left. Tin hat ready.
By The Okie cokie what as set of Muppets. This team is safe already playing percentage football playing on the deck when allowed but when under pressure clearing the lines and allowing them to start again further up the pitch. Last season we would have lost at least 6 more games. I sang "It's just like watching Brazil " as loud as anyone and would love us to pass teams off the park but I am delighted with where we are and what we're doing. COYR
Am I right that we've played Norwich (A), Tranmere (H), Swansea (H), Watford (A), Norwich (H), Cardiff (H) and Forest (A) since the turn of the year? Two wins, two draws and three defeats. But four of the seven games have been against teams in the top three of the Championship. Matty James played in one of the defeats. Would have been nice to turn one of the last two draws in to a deserved win, but considering the cup run is worth £500k to us I'd have taken those results prior to starting 2021. I like Matty James but I think he's been put on a massive pedestal on this last stint at Oakwell. I'm more excited about Jordan Williams returning and Styles being allowed to move in to midfield than I was about James staying.
I’m undoubtedly echoing what some have already said but I believe the results would have been similar with James and why would we waste minutes on a player who has no future with us (regardless of his merits) compared to players who we will be hoping to be part of our core next year and beyond. And then become saleable assets in order to continue running the club in the way to which we are now.
Pondering upon our midfield in terms of their individual creativity is hardly crucial in terms of the way we now play. We don't attack via them unless it's already in their half. We presently need tireless runners who can possibly long throw and that's about it. Crafty passes near their box would be nice once we're over the half way line. I can imagine James thinking "WTF is the point of me stopping here"?
not an unreasonable position mate, apart from the bit about Williams (I can’t see a footballer there) it’s also not unreasonable however to hold the position that matty james is a class player and we are a far better team with him in it
I disagree because they get plenty of the ball. But far too often in certain games, but not all, they choose to go long when it isn't needed and the quality of that long ball is more often than not poor. Our midfield could be a lot more influential than they are. Some of that is on the tactics but also their own decision making.
Williams was our best player pre-injury. I think 'far better' is stretching it when you consider how many games we won once he wasn't on the pitch and also how many times we went behind with him on it. I take the argument that we're better off with him in the squad than not though as he is class. I did say I liked Matty James by the way
