Thought he did well.again but obviously Val.is wanting more

Ismael says he took Palmer off because he was tired, which made him late in the tackles and impacted his decision-making. I thought he was one of the best players on the pitch but who am I to disagree with Big Val? #barnsleyfc

I like Palmer. He still has a lot to learn, and I've often noticed that he can be a bit rash with tackles in the middle of the park. Obviously something that can be worked on though. I hope he gets a bit of a run in the side now though.

He looks very casual and laid back but I think he's very good. And he does win alot of the tackles he goes in for. Thought he was one of the better players first half yesterday, and certainly starts over Kane for me against Cardiff

Agreed I thought Kane did a lot better than he recently has done when he came on - he looked after the ball well.

The problem we have is that both Kane and Palmer need a run of at least ten starts to see if either can look like being the centre mid answer for next season.
A match here and a match there, in and out of the team won't do it.

Who am I to argue with Valerien, but I thought Palmer was very good in the first half and was unlucky to have been subbed at HT. I thought it must have been an injury, but this disproves that. Palmer still has a lot of talent though and he'll get more chances in the upcoming weeks. In my opinion he's a bit ahead of Herbie Kane and Romal should definitely be starting more games soon.

Palmer looks to have all the attributes you’d want from a central midfielder. Thought he was very good yesterday and surprised he was subbed at HT. Don’t think Val knows himself yet who he want to replace James spot out of Kane/Palmer hence why they’ve both been getting game time. Like others have said I hope one of them get a consistent run of games to settle in the side. Don’t forget Palmer’s less than 30 games experience in the football league I think with a run of games he’ll get better and better and show his worth.

From what I have seen so far I believe Palmer should start before Kane. That could change if Kane improves his ball retention and set pieces

This is why I’m hoping we can reach 50ish points ASAP so that we can take a longer look at these type of players with enough of the season left to give them a good run of games. This would allow them have a dip in form/ have a couple of poor games but keep playing.

I’m guessing that making the change at half time still allows him to make three more batches of substitutions in the second half.

    Does that restriction still apply?

I was surprised he was taken off. For me he's a better bet to start than Herbie cu.rrently.
Bites in the tackle. Plays the simple pass. Tracks back well. A top prospect
So...surprised cos thought he was playing well....but as another poster said....I'm not going to be getting in touch with Big Val to disagree with him!

I don't think sharing game time between Kane and Palmer is a problem. They both need experience, they both got things to improve on, so no need to put too much pressure on and no rush as they will be our cm pairing next season and that is something to look forward to.

I thought he played well but did notice he was taking time to track back and stay with is man as the half wore on.

    Kane was an able replacement.
