Actually... thats probably the thing I dislike most about living in London. The heat. Generally mild winters with very little significant snow (not seen a flake this winter yet) and then in summer it can be baking hot, well over 30 degrees and this summer just gone I think we had weeks where it was over 30 and well over 20 at night so sleeping was horrible. Climate change obviously plays a huge part as the winters up north are nothing like when i was a kid, sadly.
Sadly that's not a universal issue for smaller places. The lack of support is astounding; no VAT cut on alcohol, rent relief, rate relief, etc. They've had the grants and furlough, which have been welcomed, but so many venues haven't received any money yet so are literally running on fumes right now having to pay NI and Tax for their employees.
It's not just pubs and breweries though either on that score sadly. The manner and targeting of support has been absolutely appalling and will result in some companies making more money, at the expense of some that can't even survive. And that's just not right.
I agree mate. The heat was unbearable in Summer. Regularly over 25 degrees overnight, couldn't sleep. I remember one day when we came back off holiday, it was 37 degrees during the day and and been over 30 degrees every day whilst away. The house was like an oven and took about a week with all the windows and doors open just to get back to normality. I don't miss it at all
I think we had one night where the night time temperature was close to 30 degrees. I'm sure my blood is scandinavian, because anything over 12 degrees and I think thats a bit warm, and that was more than a bit warm!
Visiting our folks in Poole every year, I used to take my cousin Mick at least half a dozen Co-oplands Curd tarts. We used to stop at Rownams services to alert him of expected time of arrival. He'd be sat on the wall waiting for us and by the time we had got our cases indoors, he'd literally devoured one of the large tarts we'd taken down for him. He loves them. https://cooplands-bakery.co.uk/our-products/sweet-treats/yorkshire-curd-tart
TBH mate. When I visit selhurst park There’s a fish shop in town where the fish and chips are better than most. Mates go straight int pub for pub grub. I head for that fish oyl.
Stay away from Percies. Not enough to go round as it is. My Nephew ( before he passed. bless him.) Lived near Brum. And always took a load back with him for his work colleagues.
Anybody found good fish and chips around Cambridge? Long shot I know. There’s one that’s not bad in the arcade in Newmarket by southern standards. Don’t know whether it’s me that’s got used to it but the beer doesn’t seem too bad these days. I’ve got a number of Sam Smiths pubs that I go in when I’m in London and I really like them.
Chuffin hell don't you dare do that. We''ll end up with a thread longer than the US election one ! I'll transfer you the £8 if you promise to stay stum.
