B’stds end of. Oh by the way, cnuts n’all. Get the unpopular done and sneak it under the radar during Covid along with workers rights.
And folk vote for these b'STDs Last week rumours emerged in the Financial Times that the government is secretly drawing up plans to rip up more of our workplace rights. After initially denying the rumour, it was confirmed yesterday by the Minister that they are indeed, ‘reviewing’ workplace protections. The immediate response from the whole of the labour movement has been brilliant - from the Shadow Cabinet to the grassroots we have vowed to fight tooth and nail against any threats to our rights at work. Are you with us? Join the campaign The government have found time at the height of the pandemic, whilst thousands of people are dying each day, to draw up plans to scrap the very protections that they have long promised would be safe in their hands. They have no mandate and no public support to do this. A loss of basic rights affects everyone, spreading insecurity and lowering living standards by putting more downward pressure on wages. Long working hours are a threat to public safety - no one wants their loved ones to receive care from a chronically overworked nurse or be driven home by an exhausted bus driver. Working people are putting themselves in harm’s way every day to keep this country fed, safe, cared for and connected – working under unimaginable pressures. This pandemic should be a turning point where working people should have their rights strengthened, not threatened.
Johnson & his cronies planning to rip up workers’ rights, the nhs on the table? Surely not! That would mean they’re liars!
What a set of lying Barstewards. I hope John Coucom is delighted with the set of cnuts he and his fellow voters placed in power
The problem is that they can do anything they want for another 3 years and 2 months. If the NHS is sold by then - probably piecemeal or bits rather than the entire thing - then we can do absolutely nothing about it, its gone forever.
They know they are in trouble in 2024 so they might as well just get on with it and then blame Labour.
but they promised .... And strangely all of us who pointed to Johnsons record of lying to tell people what they wanted to here, then doing precisely the opposite, were laughed at by those who were so desperate either for Brexit or to stop Corbyn they would vote Toer. And not just the lovable Tory party of old that was happy with wrecking a few labour supporting industries, no this was the new far right Tory party who dont even seem to care for the moderately rich or small businessmen either. This is all going exactly as I knew it would last December, except I didnt forsee the way they could completely **** up Covid either -
Within a year they'll have stopped wearing their NHS badges and the narrative will have shifted to how, despite the brave efforts of our doctors and nurses, the Covid epidemic offers a stark illustration of how the NHS is no longer fit for purpose. They'll use their own c0ck-ups as justification for getting rid.
I find this whole scenario extremely distressing. The Tories are on the way to further opening up of our beloved nhs and what's worse is that the people who predominantly rely on it voted these people in. You couldn't make it up. Things like this really depress me. Same with workers' rights.
I actually think they’ll pretend the NHS is still the NHS. Just like track and trace is badged as the NHS. Just like the vaccination roll out is being touted as the NHS and not a company with Lord Ashcroft as NE Chairman and largest shareholder.
Media vs Govt. Certain sectors of the media states there are rumours that the NHS is up for sale. The Govt categorically state that it is NOT. Yet some on here are 100% convinced that it is. Since it would be political suicide to do so, given the public perception of the NHS and the Covid Pandemic has once again highlighted how bad the US system then there should be at least some doubts in people's minds as to the accuracy of the media claims. Apparently not on this BB though! Incidentally a review is a review, just that, and again, does not necessarily translate to destruction or removal or workers rights , which again I would point out exceed EU legislation and many of which could have been removed at any time during our membership of the EU Having constantly berated half the US population of blindly following the conspiracy theories relayed by social media and certain sections of the mainstream media, some on here are guilty of exactly the same 100% convinced that something is going to happen based purely on rumour and media speculation. This post is not in support of the Government and it may well come to pass that the rumours may turn out to be true, but it IS criticism of the attitudes and extreme bias confirmation of some people on here who jump to conclusions based solely on news reports from (in this instance) left leaning media outlets without clear empirical evidence.
I hate the argument ‘we don’t need a law against it because we’re not going to do it’. Having a law against it doesn’t make you do it so why would you care if it’s illegal if you’re not planning on doing it anyway? Even to be forward thinking and stop/make it harder for anyone following you who might intend to do just that even if you didn’t.
We had the warning signs before the election though. It was clear that the States wanted to get their hands on our health system as part of any trade deals. The documentation was there. Very different to conspiracy theorists.
Once bitten twice shy. Trump fans were expecting things to happen that Trump had no power to do (overturn an election with no evidence etc.) This Government has the power to rip up worker’s rights and sell off the NHS and have made no secret of the fact that that is what they have always wanted to do.
Unrelated Tekky but what’s the view in Italy of all these rebel businesses opening up in contravention of the Coronavirus laws? Does it have much popular support?
Exactly this. The NHS name will be kept and most folk won’t look any further. Even better Johnson could make good his Brexit promise of an extra £350 million a week for the NHS and everyone will be overjoyed, little knowing most of that will be funnelled straight to their cronies and backers. Job done. “Most people think the Tory party don’t care about poor people or the NHS. They’re right.” Dominic Cummings.
Not having seen the exact wording of the rejected amendment to the bill it is entirely possible that there were elements of it rather than the whole that were unacceptable. e.g. removing the ability of the Govt to control drug prices? Admittedly I am not sure what that means but possibly if a drug company is making excessive profits the removing the ability for a Govt to step in and cap those profits could be detrimental to the NHS. Too many on here, make decisions on the actions and motivations of Governments without knowing the full facts and reasoning behind those decisions. I certainly don't have all the facts. Do you?
