Interesting mix of views, especially as to how limited we are... No doubt Barnsley will field a physical side so we will need to be up for the battle. Obviously they’re beatable but they’re not a bad side by any stretch this season I genuinely would have more desire to beat halifax . Barnsley meh just means another game . Ye thanks, feel a very confident win, think we will smash em 3 or four nil. Same £50 bet going on this one. Load of Barnsley fans in Denby Dale. I used to drink with some lads in The Chartist at Shat going back years as well. Was split about 50/50 Town and Barnsley,no trouble great banter. Went in after the 7-1 defeat and the Tykes has set out "losers corner" for us Town fans to sit while they harangued us. All good natured. *******. Dead right it depends where you live. Heavy Woollen the rivalry between Town and Leeds is much more than out in the sticks south of the town centre. Growing up I'd never met a Barnsley fan. Sounds like theh all live in Huddersfield. Wouldn’t you if the alternative is Barnsley? My point was that it's a minor rivalry, and our rivalry with Barnsley is even less than the one with Peterborough Hard to believe it's 40 years in February since 28,901 (where did they all come from?) watched this fixture at Leeds Road, Barnsley must have brought around 8,000 Barnsley brought over 10k that day. Barnsley on a Boxing Day. We'd have got train as far as Penistone and then walked in via the "friendly" local boozers Barnsley don't piss about with the ball do they? Everything is one or two touch. Will be difficult to defend against Great move, good goal, shut the biased commentary team on iFollow up. Barnsley are very energetic but, to be honest, they are just a long ball side. Came from a foul corner. No way was that ball in the semi circle by the flag when he hit it. We are the better footballing team, but we need to stand up better to Barnsley's direct tactics. Bacuna's dead again. Barnsley on top now, Town struggling to get up the pitch. Barnsley have taken 2 illegal corners the ball wasn't overhanging the quadrant- and scored from the first one Town are being undone by non-league tactics far too easily Barnsley have dealt with the conditions much better than us, glad to get to HT at 1-1. umping up and down like a knob and throwing beer over myself to recreate the oakwell atmosphere Its similar to Wycombe away, but they have much more quality up front. Now brought over 20 million pounds worth of talent off the bench . Barnsley must be thinking this just isn't fair Bugger, Absolute garbage, Gutting, How can we lose to these?, Totally deserved that.... Pathetic.... Pathetic.... Pathetic.… The time was up yet the ref allowed them to take the throw. He looked at his watch at them waited and allowed them to bring everyone up and take it. ****. It was ******* full time. Barnsley won the battle, nothing more to be said. They wanted it more and deserved their victory. We've just lost to one of the worst footballing teams I have ever seen. Barnsley look to be a limited outfit in fairness and we just didn’t impose ourselves on it hoofball versus football... Hoofball wins.… Ref was after a Barnsley win most the game, should have blown when the ball went out No complaints. They are limited but will run all day and are well set up for set pieces. Gutted - beaten by such a limited team scoring almost the only way it looked likely they would, set piece, flick on and we’re beaten to the 2nd ball. I thought our defending was pretty poor against limited opposition Both goals came from illegal restarts to be honest. Ball outside quadrant for corner, foul throw for winner.
I’d suggest they watch the game back. I only saw one team trying to play one touch, one twos and stuff, and it wasn’t them. Granted the game got scrappy at times but the weather was shït and the pitch is looking crap already. I posted yesterday about our centre halves smashing the diagonal being a complete waste though. We never get anything from it, it’s utter tonk.
2 scrappy teams admittedly on the day in poor conditions, but the majority of them still seem to believe they play Premiership football. Deluded.
We are a very direct team nowadays, but for them to have the cheek to call us hoofball, when they barely played a pass on the floor all game is laughable and embarrassing.
"We've just lost to one of the worst footballing teams I have ever seen." Got to love some football "fans" haven't you? Every club has them. Clueless beyond belief
Nothing can be taken from the game yesterday in respect to the quality of either side. It was a battle in the worst possible conditions for a football match. Heavy pitch that was cutting up after weeks of rain (and if our pitch is struggling, which has good drainage and is perched on the side of a hill, then some are going to be in a real mess) and a swirling gale force wind. We won the battle, just. We already know our players work their socks off until the final whistle and never give up and, like yesterday, it's going to get us a few extra points. But there was nothing else to learn from the game about either side.
“No complaints. They are limited but will run all day and are well set up for set pieces” This. Although slightly unfair isn’t too far from the truth. The vast majority of sides in this division are also limited too in one way or another. we’ve nothing to fear.
teams like Barnsley eh? We played to suit the conditions better than they did , end of. We might have gone a bit more direct these days, but you know what using what you have to the best advantage is what good managers do, I also think we mix in a bit of the nice stuff too, but at the end of the day int it nice to be winning more than we lose again!
The good thing about under Val we can easily adapt throughout the game and switch to being direct if needed, he also seems to utilise subs far better than last few seasons.
"Barnsley on a Boxing Day. We'd have got train as far as Penistone and then walked in via the "friendly" local boozers" Think someone's got their geography a bit wrong if they thought they'd be walking in from Penistone!
Scrappy game and can’t argue with the long ball comments. We do use it sometimes and did today. It seems the plan is to get the ball up front and then press. Not as pretty as some of the sides we’ve had in the past, but very effective. As for local rivalry, I’ve never really classed Huddersfield as local rivals and I don’t know why. I wish them well and never begrudged them success when they’ve had it.
Agree with the observation that unfortunately the weather eventually dictated the way the game was played. We adapted to it far better than them. As for illegal corners and throw ins, I've checked the BBC Sports website. It says Barnsley 2 v Huddersfield 1. Am I missing something.?
Lmao they act like we class them as a rival. Its just a yorkshire derby. Remember league 1 play offs when they were more obsessed with us. Just because they've had a little spell in the Premier league it doesn't mean everyone cares for them. Weirdos
Hoofball, limited, physical, pub side...... Yet you terriers with all ya talent and parachute money LOST to us... Embarrassing or what...
Our corner was perfectly legal which lead to our fist goal, they need to know the rules before spouting utter drivel.
I particularly like the fact that other teams fans now think we are a physical side. That is music to my ears as in the past we have been too easy to dominate and push around: long may it continue
