To sum up: - I was in favour of the initial lockdown in March/April. - I was then against the shambles that they came up with in the Autumn. - So to try and 'reset' I was then in favour of what would be known as a 'circuit breaker' over half term. This never came - hence me saying in numerous threads that we aren't in Lockdown (which is where you must have come up with this idea). - I also think that current measures are a disgrace. - I also wish, that whenever we are in lockdown, that businesses are properly supported financially throughout. Not given a token couple of grand by that ****** Sunak. --- Never once have I clammered for longer and harder lockdowns. I'm also not sure why I have to justify myself to you either, but there we are. Right, I'm off to smash up the local butchers then to set fire to the market. Fck local business. I hope they fail.
Promise me you won't harm the Curry Mahal! I'll buy you a pint after all this if you leave it out of your trail of destruction.
Is the comparison with these countries literally just because they’re ‘nextdoor’? Their capital cities are roughly only 33% the population of Stockholm, which must have a huge influence on how to contain a virus. Plus Sweden hasn’t had issues or spikes for months until recently but suddenly their strategy is flawed? Something doesn’t feel right there. If the strategy was the wrong one they would have been punished for it some time ago surely?
Octopus show is brilliant isn't it Belgium 1582 - it's almost as if there is no correlation at all between covid deaths and lockdowns isn't it? That's because there isn't. Makes you think doesn't it?
Unless we're comparing two countries that are identical in every way, aren't death numbers potentially misleading? I seem to recall something being mentioned months ago about the geography of Sweden being a bit different from its neighbours. Or have I made that up? #fakenewsgoat?
Yep, plus how different nations count 'covid' deaths. Then there's 'population density' - as if everyone in each nation is spread out evenly. Lockdowns in various guises for nearly 12 months and a respiratory virus is still active in the population. Mind, it's all the fault of folk that like a pint or something. Bin.
So good, proper tugs on the heart stings. You’d need to analyse a more factors than deaths/population/lockdown to understand correlation. Some folk cleverer than I would have to model it though, it’s been a few years since studying my economics degree.
Haha, the fact that people have twisted things to the extent that they genuinely believe the UK has handled this better than Sweden just goes to prove that there are people who will never admit they were wrong no matter how bad the situation gets here - and that's exactly why we'll always have masks and social distancing forever now, because no one will admit that accepting the virus is endemic in society and taking steps to deal with it accordingly is the right way to go. Honestly, it's not even worthy of debate if people can't see that Sweden, with their functioning healthcare system and relatively intact economy, 24th in deaths per million population versus the UK's 11th - who incidentally have banned inbound transport from the UK because of the levels of virus that we're experiencing - haven't performed better through the epidemic even before you consider the resilience and mental health benefits their citizens have benefitted from versus the flagging UK. Their words of self-criticism have been totally twisted - the criticism stems, correctly, from the fact that they did the same thing as us at the start and released the virus into care homes where the majority of wave 1 deaths happened. They have a healthy attitude to criticism and honest self assessment that is sadly lacking here. It's utterly laughable that there are people on this thread proved utterly wrong, who predicted that the virus would rip through Sweden, who appear to genuinely think that we got it right and they got it wrong. It just goes to show how much easier it is to fool people than to convince them they've been fooled. No doubt people will point to "population density", conveniently ignoring the fact that 85% of Swedes live in three major metropolitan areas with similar density to the UK.
Pity there aren't any covid safe hospitality venues open anymore for people to go to. Masterpiece of over reaction and wildly thrashing about that was. Keep the pressure on and people will eventually crack. No I wouldn't attend a 60 strong house party, but there you go. I'm not everyone else.
And by the way, I know Neil O'Brien personally. If you are quoting rabid right wing Tories like that I'd be seriously careful about your sources. You don't think he might have something of a vested interest in "proving" their strategy wrong?
Sweden. “What we have done hasn’t worked and has resulted in us having much worse outcomes than our neighbours so will be moving to a much stricter regime”. English people “well we are shitter so what do they know”.
