Steve Mac was offside. We probably didn’t notice at the time. After the unjust red cards for Barnard & Morgan. Would love to know what Shez said to Willard to walk too.
Aye, was saving it for Christmas Day, but couldn’t resist. but had my home vhs transfers for years. This is clearer.. even Alf is saying WTF..?
You can bet that Ince said something derogatory to wind Shez up for him to do what he did. I will never ever forget how I felt as I left the ground after that game. Fuming doesn't do justice to it. It was a complete and utter fiasco brought about by the unsporting underhand tactics of some of the Liverpool players. There is no doubt in my mind, that on the day, we were the better side and in truth, we should have won. I always liken the days events to when Angelo Dundee slashed Ali's glove when it looked like Henry Cooper was going to deck him. The Liverpool players started their theatrics by exagerrating their " injuries" when a Barnsley player went near them. The utter pillock Willard allowed himself to be " sucked in" and we know the results of what ensued. On the Monday morning, I had a Street Lighting Engineers panel meeting at YPO. The then Principal Lighting Engineer for the City of Bradford Metroplolitan Council who was a season ticket holder at Anfield and who had been at Oakwell for the game, made a point of coming up to me and openly admitted that a travesty of justice had taken place and that Barnsley had deserved all three points. I honestly believe to this day, that the start point of our eventual relegation occurred that day against Liverpool. As well as the adverse effects that any suspensions had on us, it seemed to take the wind out of our sails and you could detect that some form of demoralisation had come over the team and the supporters and we could have been forgiven for thinking that " everyone" was against us. The journey home after we had lost to Leicester City in May was a solemn one and was in sharp contrast to our opening game in the Premiership in the previous Augusts sunshine when Frank Lampard jammily shinned the ball into the net in a 1-2 reversal against West Ham United. We gave that season our best shot, but unfortunately , for a whole host of reasons we came up short and were relegated. Since that time, I've always taken comfort from the fact that unlike a lot of Clubs, at least we had a season in the top division and that try as they might, nobody can ever take that away from us.
fcukin Stevie Wonder had better better eyes than that cheating tw at. Apologies for the language but **** me Betty what an absolute **** that **** was....and probably still is, the ******* ****.
Having spent a few hours in Shez's company, I realised how sensible I am. And sensible isn't a word that's ever described me.
I remember exactly where I was & doing when Barnsley got promoted. I had an interview at Saint Martins for fine art degree, on the Monday. So stayed put in London. I knew they’d be alright.x Then didn’t get accepted at SM, but got in at Chelsea. Loved it& did well. 1st class honours. Then Did masters at Saint Martins. Swings & roundabouts. Like football..
What on earth is ‘sensible’? You wound up the club up so much, they had no other choice but to employ you. & speaking on behalf of many, we’re glad they did. You’re still a loser..
Iirc ince had been winding shez up all game calling him nationwide. So shez lamped him, which was fair enough.
It can’t be that there were players out of shot who were playing McManaman on, because Willard (sorry for the swear word) had sent every fecker off. Complete set of $hithouses them scousers were. If that season did one thing, it was open my eyes to how some of these teams and players truly carry on compared to how they’re portrayed on MOTD.
