I've asked a lot of the BBS recently, and I thank you all for your replies. So here's updates on my various situations:

    Back ache

I tried various exercises and even yoga. I was having no real joy, and still waking up at 4am every day with mild back pain. I then realised that when I was living at home, I primarily slept on the other side of the bed. I thought I'd give that a try, and it turns out, that's all I needed. No more back pain.

    Laptops

I took the advice of a couple of posters and went for one with an AMD Ryzen processor. I had difficulty finding anywhere with any laptops in stock. Ended up with one from Amazon. An Asus (I don't remember the model), but I'm very happy with it. Only really used it for applying for jobs, but that's kinda what I needed it for.

    Car trouble

Not had the chance to go out and jump start the car yet. There's been a car parked on front of mine for a couple of days and I don't know who it belongs to. Decided I'd try and roll it back a few feet this morning, however the hill was a bit too steep. But when I got inside, I noticed I'd left the interior light switched on. It was 36 hours between me last using the car, and realising it wouldn't start, so it probably is just a case of a flat battery. Got a battery and alternator tester yesterday though just to make sure. Fingers crossed that a jump start, and a nice long drive is all that is required to sort it out.

I’d have laid money on it being an interior light! Will did the same in my car and it absolutely drained the battery overnight. It’s worse than leaving headlights on as it can continue to draw small bits of power long after there wouldn’t be enough to keep the headlights going and so it drains it almost completely. When you put the jump leads on it’ll take much longer than you expect to get it so you can start it again but then it’ll be fine after a good long drive.

I once had a week off work, parked my car up and didn't use it for a week. When I went out to it I realised the interior light was on but amazingly it still started. That thing must have had the batter from a bus in it or something

Went to try a jump start, got a little spark from the cables when attaching. Decided the best thing to do is call Green Flag. Might not be all cut and dry just yet. Here's hoping though

The spark is pretty normal, it just scares the hell out of you at first.

Ah okay. I'd read online that any sign of a spark could mean bigger issues and by persisting, you could damage both cars. I've got full breakdown cover anyway, so I'm going to leave it to the pro's. Despite having a keen interest in cars since being very young, I know somewhere between nothing and absolutely nothing about them.

I think me and you have the same knowledge of cars then. I know what each of the three pedals do and that's about it.

When it comes to jumping them I really only know what I've learned through necessity at work. I don't know if it's necessarily 'right' most of the time but know if it works or not

Good news on the above. Don't drive out of tier 3. You have a lot of the North to go at to be fair. If you are pulled up, just explain you are testing your eyesight.

Get one with two pedals. Much easier.

Hope it isn't anything too costly with the car.

This is where the BBS is at its best, arguing aside and helping out fellow contributors.
