That was absolutely dire. Not helped by a ref who was at least as bad as any of the players on show. I’ll give Wycombe credit in that they turned it into a head tennis bore fest and didn’t allow us to play at all. Probably sensible, it’s a compliment really. But we still did enough to win the game. They are absolute shithouses though, from one to eleven. They’d be down with the trimmings if Derby and Washday weren’t so bad.
A poor game not helped by poor refereeing. Their penalty was outside the area and our should have just been a goal. It would have been grossly unfair if Woody hadn't scored.
Take the three points and forget all about it. Hard fought, ground out victory. We’d have lost that game in seasons gone by.
Agree very poor. Sadly if we play like that on Saturday as bad as the Wendies are, we will come away empty handed. Pulis has been criticising his players today. Really hate it if he's interviewed on Quest on Saturday after recording his first win. Let's hope we've got our poorest display thus far out of our system. COYR.
Dragged back to the dire levels of league 1 today but as Troff correctly said not long back we would have lost that one. there is a change in attitude all round though, I for one never contemplated losing the game and my disappointment with the Bournemouth game was of missed chances by us because I felt we played well but they scored when the chance came. mid table mediocrity here we come....lv it..
Don’t get me wrong, we were poor but I’m not being overly critical of Barnsley. The game was so bad at Wycombe’s choosing. If a team comes to spoil like that there is little you can do about it and the worst thing you can do is try to play nice tippy tappy stuff round them as they’d just shove you off the park. Credit to Wycombe for dictating the style of play - but even in doing so they were nowhere near good enough to get anything.
To be fair to them they play effective rather than attractive football and theyre far from dead and burried. I bet they've got as many points as we had last season after 17 games ? As crap as their tactics are I hope they stay up.
I agree with what you're saying but they were still in it until the last kick of the game. That's not bad for a small club with a two Bob budget, we of all clubs should have a bit of respect for that.
Wycombe are shít: cynical, defensive hoofers, with King Príck Jacobson leading the rest of his team-mates in the dark arts. They'll definitely go down. But, really, what else can be expected, and I am not being patronising when I say that? They Covided their lucky way into the League One play-offs, and are doing the only thing they can do to remain competitive. There's not a lot of money there - they voted to stop the season, claiming they'd not be able to afford to test their players. We know all about having to do things on a slender budget. There are slender budgets, though, and then there's Wycombe. I mean, starting Akinfenwa? In this division? It's ugly as fúck, but they have probably the worst individuals I have ever seen in the second tier. You gotta do what you gotta do in order to stay in games.
I don't get this, we're saying Wycombe brought down the quality of the game? We never even tried to take control of the game, we played every bit as direct as they did, and by choice, presumably because we thought we'd do it with a bit more quality. That was VI's game plan, and he can rightly say it worked and take credit for the result.
It was the game plan to pay direct and not dwell on the ball in defence certainly - but there’s no way it was the plan to hoof it up in the manner we ended up doing when we had Thomas and Chaplin up top, who are barely 6 foot added together! Anyway we’re arguing over something we probably mostly agree on. We got the result and deserved it too
Amen on the result, and again credit to the fact the team are learning to win. It's what's needed. I don't agree with the first sentence though. We've been hoofing the ball up to Chaplin, Woodrow and Frieser for weeks, much the same as we hoofed it up to Chaplin, Woodrow and Thomas tonight. So it must be part of the plan. VI even gave it a name - 'vertical football.' I don't understand why we think that's playing to our strengths. Sure, get the ball into the forwards quicker, but don't do it by launching the ball high in the air all night, like we did tonight. Surely we had more confidence in our own ability to play football than that?
Sorry they deserve no credit at all. Their first goal kick came after 45 seconds and keeper took 45 seconds to take it. When you start timewasting in the 1st minute ffs. Awful awful team
They really are a bad team Wycombe. Fair play to them for being in this league but wow they are bad. I knew they played fairly direct but I can barely remember them playing a pass along the floor. The only tactic they had was lump to Akinfenwa who by the way is total garbage. He should hang up his boots and stick to his podcast he does.
Fair play to him he must be loving it but I cannot believe that he starts for them. How awful must the rest of their squad be? I am pretty unfit myself but I would do more running than him during a game. I didn't see him get out of a walk.
But it was always going to be that way, give our lads some credit, it was a brilliant victory for us.
