The Kenneth Williams programme, which is very funny, I am being warned after 9 o clock about mild innuendo, sexual references, language which some may find offensive, and upsetting, etc. What is this country coming to? It contains excerpts from Round the Horne, and the Carry On films which are on tv during the daytime for all to see. I'm an adult, I do not need Channel 5 telling me after 9pm about gentle humour which offends nobody. Are we as a nation now so lily livered that we can't handle humour from a very clever comedian, camp as he may have been. There's much, much worse on tv throughout the day. They even now tell us that there are "strong words" on Emmerdale. I've yet to hear one. Why are they doing this?
I'm not sure I've ever been so angry at a continuity announcement to rant on a public forum. I've never lived.
No. I want to watch it. I do not want to be warned off every 15 minutes after the adverts. Nearly 10 o clock and they are still doing it.
the professionally offended are usually offended about the PC brigade or snowflakes. It’s quite bizarre that they get so upset when the ones they are offended about generally are quite accepting.
I know what he means though. The warning wasn't just at the start of the programme, it was after every commercial break. Very OTT.
Down here there was a warning before a Bear Grylls survival programme for nudity. Turned out there was a brief glimpse of his backside as he stripped off to wade through a river. I do wonder if anyone really is offended or upset by a backside. 24 hour news coverage shows the aftermath of war and terrorism. People being pulled from rubble following an earthquake. Yet someone somewhere is gasping for air after seeing some cheeks. Surely not. I know we have prudes and the professionally offended but surely there are bounds to this and this is imagined offense on the broadcaster's part. I do think such warnings, except for genuinely disturbing scenes, should be removed.
Why? If the warning helps even a single victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault etc. Surely the 5 seconds of time you have to listen to it is worth it? Ffs
