This is so true 10 years ago it was insulting describing someone as black, when I was working on a council project. Using the word colour was considered correct now all of a sudden the correct word is black.
I've only just heard about the interview which Greg Clarke gave that led to this. I can't believe people are defending him. You can make the argument he's a product of his generation, but in the one interview, he made several racist, homophobic and sexist comments. I think that's more than just 'being a bit old'. And this whole notion of 'there's bigger issues going on'. Oh so we should ignore one racist homophobe, because there's an even bigger one running the country. And people wonder why we need black history month, or pride week etc.
That's really said imo, I blame some of todays society and PC brigade for that, I'm white, if someones describes me as a white male then they are not wrong because they are factually correct, just a short Bkack man
Ten years ago? More like forty, surely? Some time in the 80s I'd say. Maybe earlier but I'm not that old!
Mixed race is fine, or dual heritage. Most people I have worked with describe themselves as being of mixed race. Not everyone mixed race is "half black" are they, for starters...
I managed to watch Football Focus at lunchtime today. Dan Walker raised the issue surrounding Greg Clarke and the recent comments he made leading up to his resignation. Dion Dublin was one of the studio guests and I have to say, I found myself agreeing with his views on the matter. Firstly, he said that he thought that Clarkes comments were a mistake and his opinion, given his position and experience, he really should have known the correct terminology to use. Regarding a successor, it doesn't have to be a black person and the role could be competently performed equally by a female or male candidate. As far as he was concerned, the job should be given to a younger person who is best suited to perform the duties required. He didn't elaborate as to the precise reason why, but for him, someone like ex- pro Matt Holland would be the perfect person to fill the role.
Are you sure about that? There was a massive poster up in my doctor's in 1994 that said something along the lines of " When I was born, I was black, When I grew up, I was black, When I'm sick, I'm black, When I go out in the sun, I'm black, When I'm cold, I'm black, When I die, I'll be black, But you, When you're born, you're pink, When you grow up, you're white, When you're sick, you're green, When you go out in the sun, you go red, When you're cold, you go blue, When you die, you'll be purple, And you have the nerve to call me colored! It may not have been this exact words (I googled) but it was very similar if not and it was definitely up in the doctors in 1994.
Dion Dublin should be ashamed of himself. There he is, a black/coloured/etc bloke who has enjoyed a life of significant privilege to the extent that he has a real public platform, and instead of taking the opportunity to be the adult in the room and call out the obvious insanity of the overreaction and misrepresentation (and consequences) re Clarke’s comments, he instead jumps eagerly onto the vile identity politics bandwagon, no doubt ‘cos it’s easier than doing the right thing. Especially at the equally vile BBC. In doing so he knowingly further crucifies the career and reputation of a man who, as his comments actually demonstrate, was clearly trying to help resolve any imbalances or inequality in the sport (either real or perceived). The only people who have a problem with what Clarke said are those seeking to stir up division and trouble, typically for their own nefarious ends. It’s therefore no surprise that a number of the usual worthless virtue-signalling w@nkers who haunt (and have more or less ruined) this forum, appear to believe Clarke’s comments were some sort of heinous crime for which he should be summarily destroyed. Sadly neither Dion nor the professionally offended clowns on the BBS will be anything like smart or reflective enough to understand that this kind of reaction will do nothing but set back whatever it is they believe their cause to be (this week). Truly an own goal. I also note with some amusement that not one of them has had the bottle to challenge Bar Tyke’s wonderful post in this thread, which exemplifies how most normal rational well-rounded folks who are actually living the reality of a multi-ethnic existence in this country couldn’t give two sh1ts about this kind of divisive nonsense.
Ooh I'm a virtue signalling w.anker!! Rather be labelled that than a racist/homophobic/sexist zealot like you dude.
you'll note Bartykedidn’t need to: Tell a man who is ideally placed to discuss this he should be ashamed, or call people names such as worthless, Virtue signallers, w^nkers. Or feel the need to slag off the “PC Brigade” (Whenever they are) I’ll tell you I have no want to stir up division or trouble, that’s what racists do, that’s what people like you do.
