I remember everything from 1997 even tho I was a 13 year old lad at the time. Wish I was older to experience “tarn” afterwards but I certainly have memories that will last me a lifetime. The scenes before, afterwards and during the summer were like something from a dream. Fast forward to 2020 in a covid ridden world and how would we all feel watching our team on ifollow get promoted to the promised land and watch us in the prem without being able to attend (like Leeds at the current). Would it put a downer on it or could you gather up the same excitement that we once had in 1997. No idea what I’d feel as today, as much as I love watching us play, doing it behind an iPad on ifollow just isn’t the same. The goal today by Mowatt made me shout a simple “get in” whilst at Oakwell having seen the same I’d be jumping all over Don who sits next to me in the ponty although he’s 30 years my senior. How would others feel? Would you be happy to watch us get promoted behind the tv or just be happy to wait till we get back to the stadium. Thinking of how Leeds fans must feel (I know I shouldn’t care) but for some reason I wonder how I’d react if we were in that position?
I must admit I'd be gutted if I couldn't get to the first Barnsley PL game of my life (at least in memory, I was 2 last time). I'd be afraid of us going up, coming straight back down and missing the entire PL experience.
It obviously wouldn't be anywhere near as exciting not being there in person but I'd definitely take it!
Yes I’d take it in a heartbeat. This club being promoted and the money it would bring would be monumental for it, even one season could set us up with stupid wads to do up the academy; sort the west stand, modernise everything. There is another side to Covid. I know it doesn’t seem that way but there is. And I’d love Barnsley Football Club to be amongst the elite and rich when that happens. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves - I would like another forty points this season for a start.
I lived every minute of 96/97 to the max. Today the cards are so stacked against us generally to repeat it. I say generally, but, not always. We have a core of a team and a couple of food additions in January could see us back there. I won't be there in person but without a crazy backdrop we might not be in a position to pull it off.
I want us to get promoted but unfortunately we'll only finish 16th this year whilst living within our means. Next year however, there'll be no relegation slots available.
I'll never forget the sheer emotion of that day of the Bradford game, my dad who was a proper "they don't want to go up" type stood there with tears in his eyes. Walking on the pitch and seeing the mark on the post from when Sundgott should have scored. But yes, I'd take promotion by laptop...
I'm torn actually. Obviously promotion to the PL would be a great achievement for the club and provide the exceptional monetary factor that would help improve and keep our club going for years. On the flip side, if no-one was there to witness the occasion both the actual promotion and the playing in the PL, well that's not great imho. The sheer emotion during and after the Bradford game was unbelievable - will we ever witness scenes like that again at Oakwell. I'd think to think so, that's what keeps you going as supporters - the hope that one day we'll do it again. Also there's the emotion and the pride after the event as well, the celebrations in the town for weeks and months afterwards, would all be watered down under the covid regulations. Yes, I'd want us to be promoted, but I'd want to be there to witness it too
Call it controversial (and according to db300k I'm not a real fan) but I have absolutely no willingness, want, hope or desire to see us achieve PL status again. As a 'proper fan' I consider myself ''old school' (at 47) and remember the 97-98 season fondly. But nearly a quarter of a century on its a different animal completely. It smacks against everything that I hate about modern football. There I've said it. I'm off to get my tin hat. UTR
I loved the promotion to the prem it was unbelievable the Bradford game and the tarn after but visiting the premier league grounds every other week was such a sterile side of football I could do without being allowed 800 tickets for spurs away one example still didn’t miss a match though C.O.Y.R. Always
I think having played a few of the so called big teams already and our defeats and some of our draws thus far being self inflicted we'll never have a better chance.
You have to laugh, don't you. Two wins on the bounce and we're talking about promotion to the Premier League. I wouldn't worry. We'd need another 4 players the standard of Matty James to see us up there in May.
I'm sure everyone knows that we need more quality to have a decent stab at promotion. However, that isn't what the OP is about though. They're asking a hypothetical question
To answer the question, I'd take us being promoted in a flash. But it's not going to happen any time soon.
