Am I right in thinking it’s in our favour to extend the deal beyond the initial 3 months? I wouldn’t say “let’s get excited” but I have a feeling that this deal could be made permanent beyond this season. Nothing to back it up but like many others who have come to us over the years who were previously on “high wages” (Macken, Harewood, Shackell) I just have a sneaky feeling that a permanent deal may not be out of the equation. Matty James won’t sign another deal for 35k with any club. I think that a club where he can find his feet and play out his career might be more appealing.
Yes you are right on the deal. But I can’t see him being here next season. Maybe not 35k but a top championship club would pay him more than we can. And that’s if he can keep fit
End of the day if he stays fit during his spell with us, other clubs will offer him more money. Those clubs will have better prospects in the league than us too. 99% of players would go somewhere else, but it's not impossible that he's in the 1%* that value the environment and values of the club over the other things - plus he's made more than enough cash to last a lifetime already. Lets hope we've got something that can attract him to stay, because my word, what a footballer. *All stats entirely made up.
If he does well with us this season when his deal with Leicester ends next summer I fear a bigger championship club who can pay more wages will come in and take him. Just enjoy him while he is here, if this happens see if conor fancies coming home.
In my opinion I don’t think we are paying anything towards his wages etc at the moment. In the hope we put him in the shop window come January.
Let’s not run away with ourselves. Matty, us and Leicester just want him to play. Seems an absolute gem of a bloke. I hope he can play and enjoy himself. It been a miserable few years.
I I agree one step at a time and let's see how it pans out. Best scenario could be that he stays fit and enjoys himself here then who knows ?
I reckon we've about a 0% chance of him signing permanently with us. Either he gets injured again or ends up being rubbish so either way we don't want him. Or more likely he's class for us and we cannot compete with what other clubs would offer him. I would loved to be proved wrong though.
I bet he might be tempted to stay when we’re top ten by January and a couple of good players are signed in addition to him
He’s fantastic but I fear we’ll just get him 100% fit and playing 90 minutes in time for January and his sale to someone in our league with a bigger budget. So pretty much most of it... The loan is until January, I can’t see it being extended and in answer to the OP, no I don’t think we have an option in our favour. I’d love to be wrong, if anyone can correct me, that said.
He's not going to be with us long term, just enjoy him while he's here. Hopefully he remains fit and helps us while we have him. And if he does, another club will offer Leicester way more money than we can afford and him wages way more than we can afford. There is not a single chance he will play for us long term. Unless, overnight, for no reason, he becomes utterly *****, in which case we wouldn't want him anyway. It's great we've got him, he's a wonderful footballer and, apparently, a good bloke, but it's short term, so enjoy what it is.
One thing seems fairly clear, his long term future isn't at Leicester. They're not rehabilitating him for the first team. I would love him to stay here but the past suggests we won't have the balls to keep him. Class player and wish him all the best, whatever. Deserved to win the PL with Leicester and to have played 150 plus games that he hasn't.
We can't afford him?? No we only have one of the richest owners in the championship lol. It's a case of we won't afford it
Is there something about the owner’s money not being the club’s money you’re struggling with? Even if they wanted to (which they clearly don’t), they aren’t allowed to just spend their own money on the club Willy-Nilly. On this example, James’ wages could probably be funded and the club stay within FFP rules. But what would the rest of the squad say if he was offered a much higher wage? And given what has happened at Wigan, bolton, Bury, Wednesday, do we really want to start being large loss makers being bankrolled by an owner? The result is nearly always points deductions, insolvency, both. James is a great player but we can’t tear up the way we operate for him or any player.
No, the club literally can't afford him. The owners wealth has nothing in common with the clubs wealth whatsoever.
I honestly think he'll be sold on January. Leicester won't be offering him a new deal, and might see it as the opportunity to get some cash for him whilst they still can. Someone's going to get a bargain, that's for sure. The only way Matty James will be at Barnsley next season, is if we get promoted this season. It's not going to happen sadly. Its not often we manage to get a player of his sheer quality at the club, so let's enjoy it whilst we can. It's very reminiscent of the days when we had Jan Molby on loan.
