Wonder if he's one of the strikers we're speaking to? 6ft3, lots of experience, was at Huddersfield most recently. https://www.transfermarkt.com/collin-quaner/profil/spieler/123397
I understand the clamber from some of our fans to add a striker from the out of contract player list, but you have to ask the question if they are going to improve us & if they are quality players then why on earth have they not got a club ? My thoughts are that if we improve our overall play, then there is enough goals in the team & its cutting out silly mistakes at the back which will improve our results , its only 9 weeks until the window reopens, which gives our new manager time to assess exactly what he needs to be brought in .
We won’t be able to afford an out and out striker that scores plenty of goals and they certainly won’t be in the out of contract category . What we want/need is someone who’ll work the opposition , hold the ball up , let the centre half’s know they’re in a game and chip in with a few goals . If we get someone like that, that can keep it in the opponents half long enough I’m sure the confidence in our other players will kick in and start contributing more goals throughout the team .
Weve had at least 3 transfer windows to rectify this glaringly obvious issue. Cant see why we'd try and rectify it now. If we do, its accepting we need to sort it, so why didnt we do it sooner and have a much greater choice.
What can you expect from an our of contract player? Any big bruising 6’ 3” centre forwards with a 1 in 3 record will not be out of contract. Providing this guy is not just looking for an easy ride for twelve months he could be just what we need to come in and rattle a few central defenders, create a link for others to play off and hopefully create a few chances as well.
I thought he was more of a wide player anyway? Admittedly I've not seen him play a lot, but when I have, he's always seemed to play on the right wing.
I'm sure I read he'd been in talks with a championship club, but couldn't agree wages. Might have been Derby.
Having looked at a list of out of contract strikers I can't see who we could afford in terms of wages then beyond that who would be good enough. From the one extreme of Daniel Sturridge and Mario Manzukic to Anthony Stokes and Ishmael Miller.
Then you are looking at someone like Rudy Gestede. 6ft 3 But just 17 goals in his last 5 seasons plus walked out sharpish on Boro.
