Maybe if we hadn't voted a conservative government in his intervention wouldn't have been needed - seems a bit odd for them to give him a gong.

I wonder if they were hoping it might make him toe the tory party line? if so they must be a bit disappointed

They do love to roll out a working class tory every now and then. They're just normal people, like you and me and Maureen.

the UK spends 181 billion pounds on welfare, 1/4 of all tax collected that is a scary number and only going to get bigger with less tax collected due to loss of jobs, footballers and other high earners who use tax loop holes are doing nothing against the law,but who is going to close up these loop holes when they all got their nose in same trough

    Just a clarification:
    https://obr.uk/forecasts-in-depth/brief-guides-and-explainers/an-obr-guide-to-welfare-spending/#two

Yes, 25% of tax goes to welfare, but welfare is a large category that includes many things. Two thirds of that 25% goes on pensions.

Not disagreeing that tax avoidance loopholes want shutting, but this stat is often misrepresented.

the vast majority of that goes on Pensions. Agree about the loopholes. Only a Corbyn led Labour wanted to shut them. Can’t see Sir Ikea being overly concerned

There are some Tory MPs who think he's an interfering busy-body who should keep his nose out of politics!
