Some p1llock just posted this on the Bristol site Contact sport. 2 players collided. Show me the rule that challenge contravenes?
They have to ask themselves whether they'd have expected a penalty had it been a challenge on their player. It was unquestionably a foul and a penalty but I also didn't agree with our commentators who suggested it was malicious and a sending off. It was a silly challenge and certainly mistimed but nothing more than that imo. Anyway, get well soon Sole.
It looked reckless to me first viewing and was expecting him walking , Listened to Robins Commentary and they were saying it wasn’t even a foul. I thought ref had given it out of the box at first I was just about to throw Telly out winder . Something different this season we getting penalties in our favour for a change .
It was a stupid challenge and a pen all day long. Would be livid if one of our players had done that too!
Agree - if one of ours had done that, I wouldn't have had any complaints at pen and sending off. Think the Rookie ref bottled the sending off and yellow was mystifying - it was either the assault I saw and red, or not, and just a pen.
And me, no doubt at all. It's not clear if O'Dowda's head made contact as well. https://www.skysports.com/football/barnsley-vs-bristol-c/report/429753
To be fair I looked on their match day thread and the majority thought it was a pen and were hugely critical of ODowd though a significant minority thought the challenge was fine
It was a cowards challenge sol had his eyes on the ball Odowd reacted slowly and led with elbow late into the challenge it looked to me on the replay that he sees Sols jump and basically jumps directly into him knowing he was never going to win the ball. Dangerous and Reckless tackle that deserved a red if the boot was on the other foot I’d have no complaints.
We can all be a little biased, no matter how hard we might try to be even-handed, but this comment on the City board takes bias to a new level. "The Barnsley player played for the penalty..."
Penalty all day long plus should have seen red. OK we only drew but let's not forget that they were top of the league and they can pick from a squad estimated to be worth a collective 56 million or so. Today's performance can best be described as gritty and should stand us in good stead when we play teams in the lower echelons of the league. Looking forward to seeing how we fair at Stoke and Millwall away, before we face QPR and Watford in two big games at home. Hopefully Sollbauer will be back soon and James will be fit enough to start alongside Mowatt and Kane in midfield. Certainly feel a tad more optimistic regarding our survival prospects than I did, following our defeat at Middlesbrough. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/698tm/marktwertanalyse/verein/698/plus/
Sollbauer won the header then their guy either nutted him having completely mistimed the challenge or put a forearm into his head because he's a cowardly ****. I honestly can't tell which. Even in slow motion it happens too fast. Both are penalties. The first scenario is a yellow card, just as a mistimed sliding tackle is a yellow card. The second a sending off. The ref thought it was the first. He didn't bottle it, he gave exactly the right decision as he thought fit. And I'm still not sure if he was right or it was a much more reckless challenge.
