Didn't a Huddersfield player do something similar when one of ours ran on the pitch? Must be about 8-9 seasons ago.
I seem to remember reading an explanation that technically the ref had no choice - the law of the game relating to violent conduct specifies the offence as being the actual act, it doesn’t matter who’s on the receiving end. To the letter of the law he was right. That was ridiculous though!
He could easily have just said it was justified to prevent a break in the law. In fact the fa pretty much overturned it by cancelling the ban but leaving the red card on record.
Its a shocker, but nothing will beat Trever Kettle blowing his whistle for half time just as the ball was crossing the line for a goal & promptly disallowing the goal ! Unbelievable Geoff , not sure of the match but I think it was an Accrington game about 3 or 4 years ago .
Lucky for us that Willard didn't sent Jan-Aage off when he rugby tackled the Barnsley fan who was hell bent on attacking him. He just sent three of our lads off anyway, mostly for no good reason.
He did indeed. Imaging the double standards if Willard had sent Ffortoft off then. I dread to think what would have happened.....
