Not at all surprised. I had £25 on us to be relegated. I wish it was more.

I think with 42 matches to go its a little early to completely write off this season , I know it was a different league but when we were bottom the other december to end up getting promoted , should remind reds fans more than any of how things can change in a season

Not surprised one bit. I’m a lot more surprised that so many expected more. We survived relegation due to a points deduction and benefitted from a level playing field created by games behind closed doors. We were absolute $hite up to the break, and every bit League 1 material. We didn’t make any significant signings before the new season and obviously lost a shed load of income. I fully expected us to be struggling. And that’s before the civil war in the boardroom, losing the coach and players jumping ship. We’re towin

We won 3-0 at Fulham before the lockdown. The improvement was already underway and who's to say it wouldn't have had the same result?

We also lost at home to Cardiff just before the lock down and it was like primary school kids versus the 5th years at secondary. We were awful. Got proper 'old manned'.

True, but the Fulham result was the turning point for me.

We were still poor after lockdown for large periods in most matches. We certainly weren't playing like a mid table championship team despite what the form table showed.

We were bottom of the league with 2 minutes of Forest game to go last season. We score, we win then beat Brentford to stay up. That's how much things can change around as well.

The writing was on the wall as soon as we sold Jacob Brown. When was the last time we sold anyone and replaced them with an adequate replacement?

If I was any less surprised, I'd be asleep.

I thought we would do really well this season with it being a weaker looking league and learned from our lessons from last season. I thought the defence would be better with a season under there belt which I think they are upto now. It's the owners that's let us all down, weak midfield , upfront selling brown. The buzz we built is leaving the squad with no crowd to spur them on. We need to see plenty of signings soon while theres still nearly a full season to go at.

I’m surprised thought we’d do better, comfortably avoid relegation. More fool me.

Not one bit surprised & all the while we continue to weaken the team, anyone who is half decent (& we’re running out of them) gets sold & replaced with someone younger with less experience & loads to learn.
It’s something we have done in the past, but not to this level & the last minute goals & luck we had, along with others going into administration, can’t keep happening every season.
We have to make our own luck & this season it looks like that’s running out.

Well most bookies had us as mid table and backed us to bloody some more noses.

So if I was a neutral I'd be quite surprised. As I'm a Barnsley fan, I'm not surprised in the slightest. Learning from mistakes is not what these owners do

Only time we’ve adequately replaced someone we’ve sold was when Woodrow came in for Bradshaw.
We actually got an improvement there.

Betting that your side will be relegated then saying you wish you had put more money on it is lower than a rattlesnakes belly , I just don’t understand a mentality like that

On a slight aside, years ago I went into a betting office in Lincoln, the only time I've ever done that simply cos I'm not that way inclined, and had to ask how to put some money on Barnsley losing at Oldham.
We always lost at Oldham and I wanted to play devil's advocate and call someone's bluff.
We won 1-0 so it worked.
I think it was the season we got promoted to the Prem so was that about 1996 ?

I'd never do it myself but if Barnsley are relegated, blow is softened by winning money. If we're not relegated, balls to the money and you can celebrate staying up. Can see why someone would do it.
