Oasis released Morning Glory. They've taken some (warranted) stick over the years, but Jesus Christ this is a proper album. Not sure it warrants a thread but I'm currently listening to it on Absolute Radio 90s and it's amazing. Up the reds.
I always say Oasis were massively overrated. I didn't like the brothers attitude etc and basically couldn't stand them. But then when I think of that album I love about half the songs on it so turns out I just didn't realise I liked them
Bought it after queuing for a long time from Andy's Records. Teenage me had only just recovered from Kurt Cobain's death when he stumbled upon Oasis. Loved them. Saw them numerous times. Still listen to them a fair bit (on my Spotify playlist that has about 3,000 songs on, on shuffle). They're not blink, mind.
First saw em Be Here Now tour 97, then Old Trafford Cricket Ground and Etihad. Weren't that bothered towards the end, loved their first couple of albums though - then Liam changed his voice.
Saw them quite a bit, in the day, including Knebworth, Maine Rd & Birmingham, really liked the first couple of albums. Really was some good albums round then
Christ I feel old, used to sneakily listen to their albums in double art and design. Like many liked first two albums but was always an Ocean Colour Scene man myself before going all rocker after seeing Foo's play in Sheffield uni in 97.
I thought that I must have heard it.... so I just played it on youtube. I musta been asleep for a while. so that is Oasis. Gallaghers right? form Manchester? I didn't miss much..
I was at their last concert at Wembley. I liked them when they first come on the scene through to mid 2000s. I’m not that much bothered now.
I cannot think of any album, released this century, that will be looked back on as a classic in 25 years time. Arctic Monkeys at a push. But will they be being played at wedding do’s years into the future like Oasis, or further back, The Kinks etc are? I was born in mid 70s when music, in my opinion, was generally rubbish. Glam Rock and that, 60s was far better music. The 80s and 90s produced some good stuff, but the 2000s, for me, seem like music and lyric writers have totally run out of ideas. I also believe that is the real reason Oasis split up. They were simply past their best and ran out of inspiration. They will time it right and get back together, one day, release a greatest hits album and do a worldwide sell out money spinning tour. But all based on their original material.
The killers, Hot Fuss would be the only for me that would be played at wedding dos. Many amazing songs from that album but Mr Brightside will still be played at dos
To be fair, I totally agree, and I am missing live music more than I am football, truth be told. But that’s one song by one band this century. I bet our resident DJ, John Peachey can get folk of all ages on their feet with a bit of Rolling Stones. The Killers, in 25 years time, will just be us from our era because it takes you back to ‘that holiday in Majorca back in 2008’ for example.
