Would imagine those thousands of Brits who are relocating are either in work or retired and dont travel in dingys.
not many I suspect. brilliant gesture from Lineker, but most people, certainly in Barnsley, will have very legitimate reasons as to why taking in an asylum seeker isn't feasible. same could be said for Banksy's boat.
Possibly the daftest post in this thread. Whilst it isn’t true that they are illegal immigrants - as has been repeatedly pointed out but never accepted, despite being fact, not opinion - an illegal immigrant would be a migrant by definition anyway.
Would love to. But I live in a tiny two up two down and haven't got the space. Can't beat a bit of xenophobia on a Thursday morning.
It was literally explained to you about 4 posts before yours. Perhaps it should have been posted on a big bus?
Yes, acting perfectly reasonably the U.K. migrants moving abroad. If they are of working age, they will work and pay tax abroad and so benefit this country in no way whatsoever, though cost nothing or very little in return - but free to return as soon as they are out of work, retired, ill or in any other need of U.K. assistance. A lot though are retired pensioners, relocating abroad whilst still drawing a U.K. pension, which they’ve likely contributed towards, but not spending a copper coin in this country and so paying no vat - nor any income tax in this country on their private pensions and/or dividends, whilst regularly popping home to see the dentist, gp or for their hip replacements. Don’t get me wrong - I have no real issue with that. I’m an advocate of free movement - where it works both ways. I was staunchly against Brexit - still am - but that’s not for now, it’s been done to death. But to roundly castigate those poor sods coming over here in desperation, to hopefully be granted asylum and the ability to work and contribute to society - and we get the stereotypical ‘get back to where you come from’ mentality - it’s hypocrisy of the highest order. ‘Our lot can say, do or go wherever we want but no chuff’s comin’ ere’. And it is fuelled by the pure lies that ‘we’ give them more than other places. It is accurate to say that we offer shelter, some basic initial provisions and about £37 a week. France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, anywhere remotely comparable offer more. A lot more in many cases. People come to this country for many reasons but it’s really not because the U.K. is a soft touch where they get a free ride. That is an absolute and complete fallacy. But the daily mail says these mucky folk are bad, so send the buggers back... I despair, I really do. We have an eclectic, multicultural society which should be celebrated, embraced and used to expand our knowledge and tastes. Instead, we have some real knuckle draggers who take exception to anyone with a face that isn’t white or who doesn’t have English as their first language. If it happens to be both - and they entered the country in a hugely dangerous and life risking way on a bit of rubber, my word. Most of us saw that vile creature in Hemsworth mouthing off at that taxi driver the other week. I sincerely hope I have more in common with a lot of these ‘illegal immigrants’ than I do that stain of society.
I never knew that tbh, I thought anybody entering a country not through the legal route was illegal, eveeyday is school day
I can confirm that the number provided is false shock horror! I can also confirm anyone claiming asylum at the time of entry in the UK isn't legally here illegally until a time their asylum claim is heard and a negative outcome for the claimant is reached (by a qualified judge in most cases). If they've claimed asylum in another EU county under Dublin convention they can be moved back there. However that will change in 3 months time due to Brexit. Anyways I'm sure plenty of you know my job better than me, as you were!
Actually, even if you've got your full 35+ years of NI you lose entitlement to access the NHS the day you relocate abroad and only get it back if and when you fully relocate back to the UK, lock, stock and barrel. You used to get a couple of years grace while you applied for membership of your host country's health system but the Tories did away with that a few years ago.
I've wondered how that worked with cross-border workers and dual taxation. If you lived in Dundalk, worked and paid tax in Belfast, do you get access to the NHS or not. And vice versa if you lived in Newry and worked/paid tax in Dublin.
That's on Boris' to do list, but getting Brexit done is easy right?! The EU will just capitulate and gives us everything isn't that what is happening?
Which is the problem when you get Mr Farage and the Daily Mail/Express screaming about illegals (even the Home Secretary), when they aren't according to International and UK law. They use inflammatory language to stir the hatred and get people brandishing the pitchforks then step back and watch the anger.
I’m aware of that but it is easily circumnavigated by ‘living’ with your family members who are still over here, for a certain arbitrary number of days per year to meet domicile rules. But again, it’s not my point to be critical of that per se.
When you’re escaping persecution and seeking asylum you get there however you can get there. I think some people (not meaning you) think that those escaping have time to log on to a computer, apply for a visa, buy flights, pack their suitcases and then hire a car to arrive calmly at a ‘claim asylum here’ stand or go wandering around in the country they are escaping from looking for a person with a clipboard from the British Government who is signing people up for asylum.
