It’s very evident on some Btitish quiz shows tbh .
Some of the answers to some questions are cringeworthy.

I think the majority of Americans don't old a passport, i worked with them in Iraq and we ( Brits) got asked on many occasions where abouts in Australia we live, we were wearing the union flag flash on our uniform as well

A Scottish mate of mine told me once that he felt that when he was born in Scotland he was shown a yellow card and spent the rest of his life trying to avoid a red. In fairness I felt the same in Wombwell.

60% of Americans are uneducated. They are just like in Russia, China, Iran, Turkey or any other country that just brain washes people with religion, fear, and only trains language and maths, no idea of their place as humans on the globe. "Have a nice ******* day".

A similar thing happened to me in portugal...I got chatting to an American woman who asked me if I was from Scotland as I had a strange English accent .......i replied no it's my regional accent I'm from a place called barnsley in south yorkshire.....she then threw her hands up to her mouth and said gosh I can't believe it.....we met a couple last week from the same place ......turned to her husband and said this guys from the south .....to which her husband says .... what a coincidence no doubt you know Tom and Jean they've lived in London for the past 10 year ....

Stupid people that can’t think for themselves vote for Trump.

That’s why it’s something to do with Trump.

87% of Americans believe in god. At least there’s evidence of a monarchy...

On a similar theme to the last bit. 1st time I ever went to Oldham to watch tarn. We struggled to find the ground. (went via woodhead and finished up in the town) Asked this bloke where the ground was. He said. “Only a short distance from where mi brother Albert lives. You know our kid don’t you ar Albert.” NO we replied . “ You do. everyone knows our Albert. go to our Alberts and you’ll be able to see the ground”
    Bless.
On a visit to Florida. ( to be fair no issues with the people we met apart from the border control. The rest of the holidays all we met were friendly) We had a meal in one of the many franchises out there. I was gabbing away. When one of the waiters asked if I was from Huddersfield as he went to uni. There. I said no just down the rd Barnsley. He said I reckognised your accent. ( to a degree obviously) He said all the rest of the staff were asking what language was I speaking until he pointed out to them. The attention we got from the rest of the visit to that restaurant was funny to say the least. Me laying the accent on thicker than I would normally speak. Have to also say I’ve been twice ( only on holidays I admit) but absolutely loved the place and to be fair. nowt to say derogatory about the people we encountered.
One man I got talking to talked about where we were from ( both on holiday) I said it’s about 4000 miles. From England. To Florida. He’d driven 2000 miles from home. (forget where home was) and saw it like I would, having to drive to London at the worst.

What an extreme and completely false statement. It’s these labels that infuriate those that sit in the middle ground or those who aren’t extreme right/left.

This thread is pretty hilarious. People recalling that one time an American said something stupid and not taking in to account the likely hundreds of other times an American didn’t say something stupid.

I could go on my Facebook page right now and pull off dozens of equally stupid comments posted in the last 24 hours by friends and friends of friends who live here in the UK.

Mocking Americans on their knowledge of Europe, whilst knowing that so many Brits wouldn’t be able to name more than five US states. And on not having a passport, when one trip for them from coast to coast makes them more travelled than some Brits who’ve only ever been to a Greek or Spanish Island.

There’s a difference between not knowing different parts of a country and not realising France isn’t in England.

And that’s absolutely the point I was trying to make wasn’t it? It’s more that people are talking in this thread like it’s ALL Americans, and we’re on this pedestal of geographical knowledge ourselves.

Not really. Just an observation. Who’s ‘we’ by the way?

I’ve got dozens of American friends and family, but I’d offer the same observation if we were talking about anywhere else with the same mindset. Some of the comments come across a bit high and mighty in my opinion that’s all.
