It doesn’t need any of us to remind James Cryne that Barnsley Football Club is much more important than just a business. The legacy is far more important than money. And it dosen’t need any of us to remind BFC Investment that the late Patrick Cryne split the ownership of Oakwell so that football at Oakwell would be secure. If BFC Investment members are honourable people - and we have no reason to doubt that they are - then they must honour the memory of Patrick Cryne. It seems that one of the reasons that BFC Investment was attracted to Barnsley was James Crynes ability with player spread sheets. In fact Dane Murphy only recently mentioned the genius of James Cryne. None of us fans want to see bad feelings now between the Cryne family and members of BFC Investment. Please sort these problems out without any animosity. Stronger together.
i agree wholeheartedly with your conclusion although the remakes about Patrick Cryne’s motivation is speculation. We can’t know what his motives were
It was stated at the time what his motives were. Think about it - Patrick could easily have owned 100% of the ground - but chose to sell 50% to Barnsley Council - making it impossible for a future owner to sell the land to a developer to dismantle Oakwell and build something like houses or a supermarket on it.
I’m not going to speculate on the motives of a man who isn’t around anymore to confirm or defend his position. However I am very dubious as to why the council would want the second half of the shares of the stadium and land. They don’t need all of it to stop it being developed on - but they do need it all if they want to sell it to developers. And BMBC, as many other local authorities, are on the bones of their arse, so probably wouldn’t (and I dare say couldn’t) speculate if they weren’t going to accumulate, as it were.
I would hope it can be resolved amicably. Our recent record of fall outs with other parties and engagement in controversy though isnt good. We had the issues with EFL, Hearts, the issues on the Miranda deal falling through, to name a few.
It's in BMBC's interests to keep the stadium in town. It brings people into town to spend money on match days.
Since Patrick bought the club. The main thing here is that since the Cryne family saved the club they are rightfully rewarded. AND ....... BFC Investment are able to move the club forward as they wish. It dosen’t seem difficult does it !?!?!
the new owners should pay every penny they owe the Cryne’s. The Cryne’s should sell the ground so that the owners can develop it and take the club forward. Fans should hope and pray owners aren’t going to screw us over in the future
Is developing the ground really that important at this current time? It's near on impossible to screw us without the full accusation of oakwell and the surroundings. Each to there own but I'd rather that part stay how it is definitely for the time been. I agree with your 1st part they should pay what they bought the club for.
Given the current circumstances re- Covid pandemic, no crowds allowed to attend and the warring factions on the board,I can't honestly see any urgency in wanting to sell the ground. In fact given the present unrest , I truly believe that in the best interests of the our loyal fans, it's imperative that Barnsley Council hang on to their 50% share.
If you are wanting to attract supporters back to the club - and you are wanting to attract better players to the club - then of course the development of the ground is important. If you don’t believe that - then you only have to listen to what Pinnock said about moving to Brentford. It shouldn’t be the case of either developing the ground OR developing the team - it’s a matter of doing both.
You’re right. Stated on numerous occasions. Interestingly, he told us that he had wanted to unite the ground with the football club in the latter years as not having the ground owner by the club made progress more difficult.
agreed. The west stand is obviously in need of a rebuild but that is not all. The ground generally hasn’t had anything done to it in years, the academy facilities the same. There is no bar, restaurant etc. Club shop is too small. Improving all this would cost money but I theory should boost revenue in the long run, attract new sponsors, increase the clubs reputation, attract better signings / higher profile manager when the time comes etc I can understand why the owners wouldn’t want to do any of this unless they owned the ground. You don’t spend loads on a house if you are renting it. Of course the downside of giving them 100% control of everything is they sell land off to developers (although council could also do that). Plus this would all cost money. Do the owners have this kind of money? Are they not paying up because of a trust breakdown with Cryne’s or they just skint? It’s all confusing. I agree with red rain, best not to worry about things we can’t control
