Imo opinion the appeals committee shouldn’t be ruling on what is their opinion regards fairness etc they should just be judging on the offense and whether the punishment is fair not as and when it should be applied .
Guardian article makes interesting reading on Wednesday and Wigan. https://amp.theguardian.com/footbal...P=share_btn_tw&__twitter_impression=true&s=03
So there found guilty of fraud and FFP failure and it doesn’t warrant instant deduction. Unbelievable. An act of fraud such as this should carry an instant demotion IMO. By giving 12 points they have effectively glossed over the fraud part
I find it astonishing that the back-dating of documents isn't seen as dishonest. It's not deception and the club didn't act in bad faith. These are supposedly wealthy businessmen ffs - they're not stupid and I agree that in a court of law this would likely be considered fraudulent. Just amazing, and it's findings like this that lead to accusations of inconsistency and bias towards the bigger clubs.
Agree - backdating signatures with the express aim of circumventing the rules on FFP is a serious offence and misdemeanor. Their intent is clear. They are lucky they were not thrown out the league, let alone docked 12 points.
Trying to be objective, I think in the long run it would have been better if Wednesday had been relegated this season. Most likely Chansiri would have gone. They'd have new owners, new manager and new young hungry players to replace high earning under performers. I don't understand all the schardenfreude on here and similar fans fora, gloating at the demise of other clubs. We like them all have a similar mix of supporters who hate their neighbours and rivals, but is the rancour misguided ? Most of the problems in football, not just in the UK, lay at the door of corrupt owners and ineffective governing bodies. They like the TV companies and advertisers (betting) are not interested in serving the best interests of the game or its fans. I know fans of the Premier league clubs will not agree with me but sadly the game is drifting away from the the majority of fans. Perhaps we should be directing our vitriol against corrupt owners and spineless governing bodies. Instead of gloating and laughing at the demise of Wednesday and Wigan we should be weeping for the sorry state of how football is run.
Good post mate. While I hugely resent what Wednesday did to us with Winnall, the vast majority of their fans (and with me having lived in Sheffield for six years, quite a few of my mates are Owls) are just like us. Yorkshire football fans, who want the best for their local club.
They probably would if their ownership wasn’t in such disarray, no body seems to know who actually owns the club
