I assumed he had retired years ago. Along with Mido, he was a great advertisement for why it’s better to buy promising young talent from the lower leagues.
He was at Chelmsford, but sadly had to move because his cousin plays there, covid rules means you’ve got to keep 2 litas apart
I don't know why everyone always uses Lita as proof that all older players are lazy and useless. He was just a bad bad signing. Prior to signing for us he had scored 12 goals in 3 years. Thats an absolutely awful return for a striker and he should never ever have been signed. He wasn't a bad player for us because of his age. He was a bad player because he was a bad player who we signed for his name only seemingly without looking at any kind of information on him
To be fair he signed the season when cryne only wanted us to sign under 25s based on stats, wilson wasnt keen and wanted some experience the experience he brought in was a crocked ross Turnbull, keith treacy and leroy lita. Lita had a decent career and earned some money when he came to us it was like he was just he for a final pay day. Every signing is a risk but younger ones pose less of a risk. Also I remember the season under hecky when we were dropping like a stone our defence couldnt keep a clean sheet and angus, lindsay and jackson were taking all the blame people wanted experience. Step forward matt mills..... jesus heather mills would have been more useful.
Disagree. Younger players carry more risk as they are untested, a tried and tested experienced player is less risk but generally more money My point regarding Lita still stands, he wasn't a bad signing because he was old, he was a bad signing because he was a striker who had scored just 12 goals in 3 years and should never have been identified as a target
Keith treacy jesus. Got excited over him that year too especially been in league 1. Hes only 31 now, my thoughts his laziness as done his career in. He definitely had it in him too
Treacy is a good point because people often use him as an example why we shouldn't sign older players but forget that when we signed him he was the same age that Woodrow and Mowatt are
Good God him and Treacy were infuriating, not to mention Dale Jennings, James Bailey etc. That early 14/15 side should have smashed the granny out of League 1, but because half of them couldn't be arsed we ended up having the piss taken out of us by Chesterfield, Port Vale, MK Dons, Swindon et al. All that experience didn't make up for the fact they were absolute wasters.
A experienced player isnt necessarily a old player, treacy was experienced when he came to us he had even player a big part in a burnley side who got promoted to the premiership. Treacy was one of the most experienced in the squad at that time just behind lita.
Young players arent always untested as such, look at the other signings that season, conor hourhine and sam winnall. Both in their early 20s conor was Plymouths player of the season top of the assist stats sam was top scorer for scunny in the league below. The only risk was could they make the step up to eague one early 20s your only ever going to improve. I know we had to pay a fee but both combined were probley on less than lita was alone.
I can’t remember where I read it but he suffered badly with depression, just wanted to go back to Ireland to be with his family. It was a weird one as he’d played plenty for Burnley in their promotion season the year before & when I heard that it made sense
