Chris Broad agreeing with what Bumble is saying. TV/radio pay a lot of money for content and then after rain delays they go off for bad light with two spinners on and the floodlights. It's just not good enough and if it's all down to the ball well in special circumstances for the rest of the day it should be allowed to be changed to a limited overs white ball so the match can carry on.

Could just use a pink ball from the day/night tests, then go back to the red in the morning.

You can’t just change a ball mid innings, yes I know they do if ones lost.

umpires need to realise it’s very often not dangerous, get them out there and get playing. They’ve walked off min glorious sunshine tonight, play until 7.30 it won’t hurt the cherubs

Hope Butler gets about 150 - he'll just about be breaking even with the cost of his drops and run-out and stumping misses then.

Not his greatest game behind the stumps!

England really are bad. On our own ground getting our ass handed to us by a country that had no warm up matches and could only get ready for the series by playing amongst themselves.

Root talking about us getting to being the number one test team. Absolutely miles away from that right now. Batting is very poor....

His test batting isn’t good enough to justify his selection as he isn’t and never has been a particularly good keeper. He’s not good enough to bat at six in the red ball game either, as he is being asked to. One century in 44 tests - and quite a lot of those playing as a specialist batsman with Bairstow behind the stumps. He’s an innovative and brilliant white ball batsman, but his first class record speaks for itself. He will get good knocks here and there and look good but won’t ever average more than low thirties. That isn’t good enough to bat top six - and we have had a lot better at seven. Ben Foakes in his short stint averaged 40+.

Bairstow is also well out of form, and clearly we need to select another batsman and to have the keeper batting at seven; Stokes being fit to bowl will facilitate that - and probably the keeper has to be Ben Foakes.

They won’t drop Buttler though. His face obviously fits. Bairstow was dropped - for getting more runs than Buttler gets - and rightly. Always been a bit of a jobs for the boys situation with English cricket selection. Root shouldn’t be captain either - but there’s a pretty thin pool of alternatives as I wouldn’t give it to Stokes given everything else he does but other than Rory Burns, who hasn’t nailed down a place really, there’s no other viable option.

93 more to win. It’s feasible so long as Woakes and Buttler stay together and put on another 50 or 60.

Our top order Batting really isn’t good enough though and hasn’t been since Cook retired

Yeah, Buttler might steer us home here and I hope he does.

Still don’t think he’s the best bet for the test team though.

    You’ve suffered commentator‘s curse big time .

I try to do this with Barnsley players, slag em off to my brother and there’s a decent chance they will prove me wrong.

Not at all. He has got that in him, but they are too few and far between.

However he’s just about steered his team to victory - not quite but they got over the line after he departed.

He’s earnt his place I guess for the next game too. I’m not convinced long term - but I hope to be proved wrong.

Wow we got lucky there. Jos with a well overdue decent innings which it took the ground and pitch he knows the best to get it on, one not carrying to Babar and another hook that fell just short, before winning with an edge. Much to improve on for the second test.
