They got rid of a failing manager, hired a successful one and judged exactly what it needed to keep us up to the last point. They also sold Kiefer Moore to Wigan thereby applying the straw that broke the camel’s back and sending them into receivership and docking them 12 points to fit in with the plan. I don’t want anybody telling me that the spreadsheet doesn’t work!
Not a fan of their work on the transfer front (decent players as they’ve shown, but too many youngsters in one go), but you do have to admit their past two managerial appointments have been sound. Stendel put life back into the club, and was just the man to lead us up. I’ll always think of him extremely fondly. Didn’t work out in the end, but they’ve pulled another rabbit out of the hat with a great appointment. Will just have to forgive them for Morais!
Now that the season is over I wonder if we’ll hear from the board any time soon, or that CEO chap Dane what’s his name? The more I think about it I‘m a little surprised that we haven’t already heard from him assuming he is still here.
Credit where it's due, they seem to be doing well at selecting managers, and at selecting promising young players. Just need to sort the overall buying and selling strategy!
Maybe so but if Patrick and GG were still at the helm would they have gone this long since Weds night without putting something on the club web page or having an interview with radio deedar or the Chron? I don’t think so. Unless I’ve missed something
In all fairness, its difficult to strike a triumphant tone til Wigans request has been heard and judged. Even if only a slim chance of successful appeal, it would be the mother of all car crashes to speak in their usual tubthumping "best ever" style language and then still find us playing in League 1 whenever that may occur.
I appreciate what you’re saying but I’m not expecting them to be trumpeting staying up. Irrespective of Wigan’s appeal, Wednesday night’s performance was outstanding and deserving of a public acknowledgement from them
They've overegged every pudding they've ever tried to make. Even when others made it. Many years prior.
So they played Wednesday night just over 24 hours ago in London, if they stayed over and came back yesterday, not exactly had loads of time to hold the interview have they. Yes would have been nice to see something on club page. If it was a week on, I would perhaps agree but not so soon after.
We look to have stayed up by default as we didn’t accrue enough actual points to avoid relegation had Wigan not been faulty. Just that. Owners are lucky lucky people this season it appears.
if rumours are true ( yeah right ) with all the clubs facing ffp points deductions we could end up in the play offs !
Paul Cook himself said on Wednesday night that the players have been in effect ‘busting a gut’ to get enough points together to off set the deduction. As I have just read on another thread but for this they might have been on the beach against us and equally had we not had the hope of stopping up we would not have had such a performance on Wednesday which denied Brentford from automatic promotion. So Wigan going into admin as inevitably had far reaching implications on the final league table.
Maybe they don't want to tempt fate. Those of us that gamble have all been stood next to that vvanker in the bookies that says "it's pissed it that" when a horse clicks clear at the 2 furlong marker. Only to be cursing a few seconds later. I'd say until next Friday ours could still be a similar scenario.
