Now the dust has settled on a ridiculous season, here are the passes and failures (imo of course). Need to have played 10 games to qualify. PLAYERS PASS Jack Walton - A. Can't fault him. Has been our most consistent player since lockdown. World class save last night to keep us in it. Saved a one on one at the death a few games back (can't remember who it was) that was outstanding. Michael Sollbaur - B+. A calm head since his arrival in January (after his first game). Has had a huge affect on the rest of the back 4. Alex Mowatt - B. Our most consistent player over the course of the season. The second goal last night summed him up - stretching every sinew in his body to hook the ball to Schmidt. Needs to improve set pieces and shooting from distance. Cauley Woodrow - C. Although he has been poor by his high standard since the restart, his goals up to March kept us within touching distance of the pack. Has probably played his last game for us - thank you for your efforts Cauley. Connor Chaplin - C. A streaky player, capable of going on a run of goals but also capable of dissapearing for the same amount. Incredibly hard working. Jacob Brown - C. Another one who has struggled a little since the restart, but I cannot fault his effort. Very versatile and can help the team in a number of ways, his partnership with Chaplin proved fruitful for the run of games in the New Year. Needs to work on his finishing. Callum Styles - C. A revelation since the restart. Only a lack of games earlier in the season has stopped his grade from being at least a B. Excited about him for next season. Killian Ludewig - C. A very promising you full back. Another one who's probably played his last game for us - good luck in the future Killian. Elliot Simoes - C. Skilful, quick and has a bit of an edge to him. Hopefully will develop into a regular first team player next year. Mads Anderson - C-. Again a tale of two halves. Just scrapes a pass for the colossal performances in the last eight games. Hopefully he will be able to perform as well under the pressure of a crowds moving forward. FAIL Brad Collins - D+. Has been overtaken by Walton, but is hopefully an able deputy. Interesting to see if he'll be happy with this. Hopefully he works hard to compete for the jersey. Aapo Halme - D. Provided solidarity at the base of the diamond initially under Struber, but did not cement a first team place. Clarke Oduor - D. The hero of the minute. Looked exciting going forward, but was twice hauled off after 20 minutes by the manager. Could be an asset at left wing back if we continue this system. Patrick Schmidt - D. Scored some huge goals. Didn't do a whole lot else. Bambo Diaby - D. Caught out positionally a number of times early in the season, and his partnership with Anderson scared me to death. Unfairly hung out to dry by the FA. Jordan WIlliams - D. Slight improvement since restart, but defensively poor. Ben Williams - D. Works his socks off, but I don't think the quality is there. Mike Bahre - E. Another of the early subbed club. Possesses the skill, but often goes missing in games. Luke Thomas - E. From first game hero, to annonymity. Has placed in a number of positions this year - none of which seem to suit him. Poor decision making on the counter attack. Toby Sibbick - E. Didn't appear to be good enough, young enough to improve. Marcel Ritzmaier - F. Shambles. MANAGER PASS Gerhard Struber - A. Mission accomplished. The players seem to love him, they buy into what he's telling them and they run through brick walls for him. I've criticised his decision making (particularly since restart), but cannot argue with his results. -- There we are. I've left off those who've now left the club because I couldn't be bothered and this has taken longer than I thought it would. Any thoughts? Anyone I've done a disservice to?
I thought he was very good last night. Passing accuracy 78% by far the best in the side. Worst? Mowatt - only 48% - he hasn't been the player he was for a few games now. Star player and revelation - Calum Styles of course. Could do better - Jacob Brown - runs his socks off, gets in good positions, poor final decisions Most improved - Mads Andersen - hardly put a foot wrong since he got back Kindergarten Kop - Michael Sollbauer - just what the team needed and Struber asked for Willing runner - Jordan Williams - deserved his place, full of running and energy. Needs a haircut Mr Cool, calm and collected - Jack Walton. Why has he been our No 3 for so long? Going home - Killian Ludewig - promising young player and gave us his best Magic Midget - Conor Chaplin - not at his best last couple of games but still causes trouble On his way - Cauley Woodrow. I like him, and he has scored some great games for us, but doesn't fit in Strubers strategy
Harsh on lots of the boys there! Particularly Woodrow, Oduor and Halme. Thomas has shown a few glimpses of quality too. Sibbick will improve. Ritz isn't as bad as people make out.
Jordan Williams is nowhere near as bad as Ben Williams, even when he’s having to play on the wrong foot.
My fave bit was ........ Bambo .... 'unfairly hung' ....... I agree we should all have a tool like a relay baton
I think both Woodrow and Chaplin are underscored. 15 goals and 13 in a very poor side that on performances alone is in the bottom 3 is some achievement.
I would have Sol as higher than Walton, not because Walton having done anything wrong just it’s clear Sol is the one player who made a big difference to the whole team and apart from his debut has been pretty solid all round. I’d probably have him as A- and Walton as B+ with a done well over short period needs longer to get higher
