Been clearing out some stuff and unearthed my Uni Dissertation on the Psychology of Penalty taking. Looking back, it’s fairly basic stuff (even though i got a good grade for it). Had forgotten that the pro footballers that took part were Clive Baker, Paul Futcher (can’t think why - can’t remembering him ever taking a pen) and from Sheff Utd Mitch Ward and Colin Heywood. Interesting to read their thoughts after 30+ years. As a study, it probably wasn’t that earth- shattering, but reading it back did make me think how football and studying has changed massively!
Yes he did, about 1989/90 season. My Dad got loads of grief for taking me out of junior school and not getting home till about 1am
Paul Futcher was one of my all time favourite players , class act , sad that he is now no longer with us , taken too early , also worth noting that he was a player who played his football in the top two divisions but ended up after is football days working as a post man out of Holmfirth delivery office , it highlights how financially the game has moved on
For my A level in economics I did a dissertation on Barnsley FC. I got to interview Johnny Steele, which was mind blowing in retrospect that he spent an hour with me answering my questions.
Not sure about that Fired but it would not surprise me if he had , I spoke to him on quite a few occasions at Holmfirth & he came across as very intelligent
We have had some excellent centre backs during my time of following the reds , Winstanley , Howard , Evans , Mcarthy , Dezue to mention a few, but Futch would always find a place in my all time team , loved watching him play , as well as all his technical skill he used to play the game with his brain , great player .
don't throw it out - it's surprising how little in-depth stuff there is available about football - we talk about team selection - tactics but little about the the whole psychology of the game. how's ratty ??
