SO the Govenment is binning the contact tracing app and going to switch to the google/apple model as used in Germany https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-53095336 I expect the taxpayers will be refunded for all the money given to the firm that failed to deliver a workable solution
Today NHS England hospital deaths is 62 over 15 different days and the total for the UK 69. If the government could be trusted we'd have had a working app out ages ago and the figures would be even better. It would be easier for them to trace people now then if we do see a second wave and then have more people to find.
Cummings' mates pockets lined again at our expense, countless unnecessary deaths as a result of the delay and mistakes made... I despise these cu.nts in power with a passion you could not quantify. Anyone who voted for these crooks, these cheating, lying frauds should hang their heads in shame. If I catch a single one of you Tory cu.nts on here ever again, I swear I'll do time....
It's gone from launching in mid May, and being an integral part of contact tracing, to maybe launching in December, and just being the cherry on top. Now it's all scrapped and starting again. Meanwhile, the Govt will no doubt wax lyrical about the latest test and trace figures, despite the fact that the number of cases it identifies is around a quarter of ONS estimates. And of the cases it identifies, they can only reach 3/4 of them.
If you read the article (which I bet most respondents haven't) you will notice it says "questions remain about whether any smartphone-based system reliant on Bluetooth signals will be accurate enough to be useful." No - any headline like this is an opportunity for criticism and Tory-bashing. Surely the government is to be applauded for testing the system thoroughly and coming to a hard decision, You might argue that the Nightingale hospitals were a waste of money because they weren't used, when in actual fact they were just the opposite.
Who could have predicted that... The ghouls of the elite feasting on misery. Anyone who thinks politicians are all the same needs to look at things like this and reevaluate
I had read the article - and I am happy the government has decided to stop spending good money after bad rather than ploughing on with a doomed project. Not quite sure why they need praise for testing it though - it would be rather bizarre to launch it without doing so. You are overlooking though the fact that most experts said the centralised approach and working around the limitations in particular in the apple phones was unlikely to work and several countries switched much earlier - Germany a good case in point. I have a bigger complaint though that the government awarded a contract with no tendering process or consultations as to the viability of the project. As for the Nightingale hospitals - I don't think many will say they were a waste of money, thats something that was a good decision at the time, its a shame they weren't used for discharge of older people instead of sending them straight back to care homes, but hindsight eh. Still 2 government u-turns this week and I fully support them both. long may it continue
Why strike out on their own though when other countries were further ahead with theirs. Purely to line their mates pockets, they honestly couldn't care less.
U-turns!! Lol - mistakes that were obvious to absolutely everyone, that they only corrected after being shamed into it. You need to back a different horse, you sap.
WTAF - where have I ever backed this shower of a government so no idea what I did to deserve that all I said was I supported the decision to actually do the right thing eventually
What an absolute incompetent shower of arseholes. That lot couldn’t run a bath never mind a country. Hope all those who voted Tory are thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
Yes, have read the articles. The Govt announced the app would be launched mid May. Then the PM announced a world beating contact tracing system by June 1st. We're now at the 18th June, and it's still unknown what technology will be used. A consistent feature of this Government is announcements of things that will happen, that subsequently do not happen. It's a result of just plugging headline dates out of the air, without doing the necessary planning. As for the Nightingale hospitals, why weren't they used? Farnham Red quotes a good example of where they could've been used. There are probably many others. I suspect the reason is that while they had a building full of beds, there wasn't adequate staff for them. It's not tory bashing, it's criticising this Government. There are many tories, who I think would've done a far better job of handling this crisis, despite them having ideals that I will never agree with, simply because they would do the hard work required to govern rather than work in constant campaign mode.
