Doubt it will do any good but there is a petition calling for the Government to uphold its manifesto promises to not lower food standards. Something it is likely to cave against to get a USA trade deal through

Whilst I have little sympathy for the farmers who voted brexit through I dont want to see our farming decimated and I particularly don't want us to be importing food produced in ways that have been banned for either safety or animal cruelty reasons.

Really need that Daniel Rashford guy on the case

Will you be as up in arms if and when the Mecosur deal eventually gets over the line.

90000 tonnes a year of cheap imported beef.

You do realise that the cattle in South America is some of the most intensive produced and full of all sort since of ***** to aid fast growth ...

Nothing to do with us anymore - but I note that not all EU countries will vote it through until they are satisfied about the environmental impact. Also I am not sure that the deal allows food in that doesn't meet EU standards.

They'll just amend the rules to suit themselves.

Point is though, if we were still part of the EU you wouldnt bat an eyelid at any changes to food standards for better or worse. Or even question a trade deal based around food be it hormone enhanced south american beef or chlorinated american chicken.

I cant see anywhere that you have protested about the use of Chlorine in Salad cleaning for example.

The chlorine isn't dangerous. The way the poultry is raised is inhumane and ends up with chlorine being needed to kill off the crap in it.
Not sure anyone is currently protesting about the inhumane propagation of lettuce.
