I don't think you realise how uncomfortable it was when I had to stand still for so long while they made the mould for that.

I like the comb, it's not to everyone's tastes but it is a piece of art.
The one opposite chron offices is the oaks colliery memorial I think which is what it is.

The dickie bird one though I really dislike. I could understand it if he was dead but he's alive and kicking and it seems a bit weird that out if everyone to have been born in this town, all the great people to have done something, we've got a statue of a cricket umpire placed quite randomly on a grass verge next between a church and a cemetery. I'd get it if it was outside a cricket club or something but where it is (despite the link to his birth) it just looks stupid to me

Agree on the Dickie statue. Locke park or shaw lane if he had connections. For me.

Those mates that watch Yorkshire don’t like Dickie cos of his apparent tightness. ( although he’s donated a lot of money to causes he supports. The cricket academy at Yorkshire for one) and his supposed celebrity status freebies.

I’ve only spoken to him once about Barnsley fc as it happens. He was in a cafe in Tarn next to me and got chatting. I found him to be nothing other than friendly and humble. So I don’t share their opinions.

Barnsley folk are very good at knocking their own sometimes. When there’s no need. He has great respect throughout the professional cricketers circle.

Also his autobiography is a great read. Far more eye opening ( how Yorkshire mistreated him. Leicestershires gain. His record speaks for itself) and humorous taking the Mick out of himself.( botham and co ribbing him to bits) Worth a read. Don’t get the audio version by the way. He can’t narrate to save his life. :).

The oaks one. isn’t that outside the NUM offices. On Victoria rd. will have to have a walk round that end of town when I next visit The museum in the Tarn hall. Another good shout if no one’s been.

No, the Oaks statue is opposite the Chron Offices. I think it's a good memorial tbf.

Thanks. For clearing up my confusion. The Victoria rd one is called Hither and thither apparently. A mourning miner. Wife and 2 children.
For those not in the know. Graham Ibbeson talented sculptor and from tarn did all 3 including oaks memorial and D Bird.

Well edible testicles are actually known as Stones. Very apt.
Everyday a schoolday. Used to think they were sweetbreads. Apparently not.

Agreed, till I read it I had no idea that he lived next door to Tommy Taylor and joined Barnsley Boys with Tommy.

When me and my dad got off the coach at Wembley in 2000, the first person we saw was Dicky, we chatted to him for a few minutes and he was great, just another Reds fan excited to be there...
