It's an astonishing piece of athleticism and judgement. He actually gets his hand under the ball and pushes it up and out of play.

I once saw Gordon Banks as an after dinner speaker and he obviously spoke of ‘that save’ quite fondly.
He said “Every time I leave the house, walk the dog, go to the shop or wherever, everyone stops me and asks me about that bloody save. I get sick of it. But let me talk you through it in detail...”.

It’s certainly one of the best and dare say the best. But Mullers penalty save. ( forget who against at home) Is well up there. Certainly the best save that I remember by a reds goalie.

Neil Mellor penalty that was heading straight for the top corner, I agree.

Not even half as good as the save David Seaman made from Peschisolido’s effort, in the FA Cup.

Banks and Seaman. Both unbelievably good saves and probably the best two saves I've ever seen.

The difference between Gordon Banks and other goalkeepers is Gordon made great saves in nearly every game he played and mistakes were far and few between.

Not just one save but remember Wolves coming to Oakwell a good few years ago with Matt Murray in the nets. Absolutely brilliant all round performance. One of the finest I've seen as a keeper. Shame he had to retire, reckon he would have ended up as regular England No 1.

I feel a bit like the odd one out here, but I definitely think the Banks save has been over glorified.
It got a lot of publicity when it first happened probably because there wasn’t as much football televised back then. Yes it was a very good save but there have been many as good if not better over the ensuing years but somehow this one is still the one exemplified.

Dave Watson's double save against Newcastle. First strike he made a good save but the ball ricocheted up in the air for their striker to head into an empty net but Watson somehow dove up from a prone position to tip it wide

Seaman was a great keeper, but whenever I think of him, this comes to mind. I particularly like the commentary on this clip. :)
