Make that "when we sell him in January" while he still has a transfer value. I think we're getting the hang of how the Board thinks by now!

Well done Reds, I'll enjoy watching him play next year. Lad seems to be enjoying himself.

Why would the club offer him more money or a longer contract if it wouldn't meet his wage demands. Which I'm pretty sure would be unacceptable to him on a long term contract at this stage

Pretty sure if we retain championship status we may offer better terms going forward.
So This way it plays into the clubs hands and not his maybe.

This Covid and the suggestions of what might or what will happen. Is Causing havoc with contracts for most footballers.

It's quite clear the players have held most of the cards since Bosman. Not so sure that's the case at the mo.

Not sure why anyone thinks this guarantees he will stay while January. He might. But the extension just means he will have more residual value if a club comes in for him this summer.

To be fair to the club, contract negotiations over a new deal had begun, but for obvious reasons were put on hold when Covid-19 began.

Given a ball might possibly not be kicked next season, it's hard to draw any conclusions, other than it was surely inevitable we'd activate an extension.

I'm not sure the market for second tier footballers is going to be what it was before all this, so I'm not convinced we wouldn't be able to secure his services longer if we remained a Championship club. He's been superb for us the last couple of seasons, but there will be a lot of decent players out of contract & not a lot of money sloshing around in the system. If we do end up in L1, I could see him consider his options, as he has proved himself at Championship level.

I wasn't having a go at the club just pointing out it wasnt actually news really good or bad. Activating the extension was always going to happen unless a new deal was agreed, and for sure the virus and the fact we still have no idea what league we will be in when next season eventually starts complicate things significantly. The extension gives us time to either sort out a new deal or sell depending on what the club and Alex want.

I know you weren't mate, just letting you know in case you were unaware. And it was Mowatt himself who said that.
