Surprised I’ve not seen owt on here after today’s news. He wants the government to help him save Virgin from going bankrupt with a loan. 1000s of job losses. Pulled out of Gatwick.
People suffering Job losses are the only thing I have a sympathy for. This person has been jailed for tax evasion. Got more offshore accounts than soft mick. Yet is running to the government to get him out of the ****. Offering to put up his island as collateral. If thatcher had been around she’d have snapped it up to use for her Jollies. (Wouldn’t let one of her star tycoons go under) John McDonald wanted to have his title revoked. 2016. Not a businessman but if possible let the ****** go under and let the public purse go into creating a state owned airline. If we’re going to lose money on such a venture so be it. Rather that than put it in his pocket.

The same demand for air travel will no longer exist post lockdown. The business needs to resize, so why prop up an airline which will be shedding jobs in any event. Also, with carriers pullimg out of Gatwick, does Heathrow still need the 3rd runway?

To be fair, VT was one of the most successful franchises and they only changed hands after StageCoach was banned from applying for future franchises after a disqualified bid in 2019. Compared to CrossCountry, Northern or even the older LNER trains it was a better travel experience.

True Paul. and using government subsidies. Also bailed out Virgins east coast rail. Didn’t do too badly did he.
You couldn’t make it up. The tax evading twhat. Putting his island up as collateral. Maybe he should go on Posh pawn. Seeing as his business mates won’t help him out.

Think Gally was replying tongue in cheek Helen. To your comment. Not very good at. Meaning it’s been good for him.

Whilst I wouldn’t advocate using taxpayers money to prop it up, it is in everyone’s interest to have an industry that consists if more than one main player (BA). The cost of air travel will rocket (excuse the pun), as it is. It will be worse if all the competitors go under.

Selling a 500m stake in Virgin Galactic to prop up the airline. Now that didn't hurt did it.
