May I ask why the hell Barnsley council are advertising so many none essential jobs? Organisation and workforce development business partner: £37k Learning and development co-ordinator: £34k Learning and development officers (X2): £33k each That's £130k for what? The country is on lockdown and these fixed term roles are being advertised which need paying for by the tax payer of Barnsley. What's the chuffing point in that?
Well I’ve no idea what a workforce development BP does... But I’d imagine an organisation having hundreds of staff to retrain due to a pandemic changing their business priorities beyond recognition might have a need for some L&D staff
Does it take much learning and development for someone to use a computer and phone at home instead of in an office?
All ******** roles for friends of the bigwigs plus there will probably be expenses in with that as well it amazes me this no money to empty green bins but advertise 3 jobs at 130 k
I thought you meant that the learning and development officer would be there to teach people how to work from home. We're you just saying that they're simply jobs themselves that can work from home?
“The economy needs to survive and jobs need to be retained and created” “No, not those jobs. Other jobs”
Apart from nobody saying it's easy I'd rather cut off my **** with a rusty saw than work for the council
I've felt absolutely privileged to work for a council (not BMBC) the last 2 months. Incredible commitment from people pulling together, going above and beyond, to ensure the most vulnerable in our society have the food, medicine, help and support needed at this time. It's been challenging, draining and stressful but worth every second.
Do you believe the council should hire nobody, or just in jobs that you approve of? Those salaries are by no means excessive, either.
What do you do that’s so important and gives you the authority and expertise to belittle Council employees and a particular job ?
Who's belittling council employees? I would hate to work for the council, I've nothing against council employees. Big difference there
The entire OP is belittling council employees, is it not? Either the future employees that get the jobs you have deemed unnecessary, or the employees that deemed the jobs necessary in the first place.
And I’m sure they would feel the same about whatever “endeavour’ you do which is I’m sure more valuable than social care or running schools or protecting vulnerable people. Or indeed supporting those people through other role to do those jobs.
Oh those at the very top balls to them that's a different kettle of fish altogether. I wouldn't dream of belittling the 'grassroots' council employees though. And i think it's impossible to belittle someone who doesn't exist yet isn't it? My post was that I think it seems a bit weird to advertise jobs like those now with no idea how much money you'll have going forwards
In the "new normal", jobs may be very hard to come by. Barnsley Council has suffered very significant cuts in funding over the last 10 years. All public sector jobs will have been justified before being advertised. In addition, employment means spending power. The job holders money will be spent helping to support other jobs. That is why it is so important for the government to avoid mass unemployment. In the current crisis, mass unemployment will turn a recession into a depression. Hands up all those who want a return to the 1930s.
