Simply because we didn’t have the infrastructure set up for track and trace whereas SK did because of the SARS epidemic.
As I understand it, that is part of the exit strategy. It will be a combination of testing and the tracing app that is being developed.
This article in The Guardian is worth a read (even from those who support the government), as it deals with well documented, sourced and anonymous comments from those in the know. A completely irresponsible "Trumpian' action both as an individual with a pregnant wife and as a message to the nation.
Yet their response was available for all countries to see how well it worked, and to be used given the threat of an outbreak of a similar nature was suspected to happen. Yet our government (and others) failed to take any notice, de-stocked PPE and basically ignored Operation Cygnus report saying how badly the NHS was prepared for an outbreak. Something Gove admitted to only having read last week.
If there is to be a public sacrifice I suspect it could be him but it will depend largely on whether the target numbers were his or whether he was just the messenger. For the record I don't think that he should be sacked over this but the government as a whole should explain why they haven't hit their target and when they expect their target to be achieved.
I think there's bigger questions than that, ones that meant that testing shouldnt have been a big an issue as it was. Their Planning & Prepration has been criminally negligent, despite being told of the risks.
Oh there are definitely more pressing and important questions that the government will need to answer. Not hitting an arbitrary target on the day they said they would is nowhere near the most important issue on the agenda right now.

Or are you saying they should expect that light to be another train coming the other way, and to ignore what the man says as it’s not as important. Why put it on agenda in the first place?
It's rare the fall guy is the one who deserves to get the boot. The CMO will have a lot to answer for & obviously the people that appointed him. I guess that is Cummings, but he has been out of sight too...
No I didn't say any of that. It was a target and they have fallen short, it doesn't change very much in the grand scheme of the crisis. Like I said in my first post with the benefit of hindsight he probably shouldn't have set the target in the first place.
agree, interestingly the CMO said today that there are too many people at present with the virus for the 'Test-Track-Treat' approach to work. That makes sense as the logistics involved in tracing many hundreds of contacts would make it impossible. As the numbers of people with the virus decrease to a more manageable level then that's the time to adopt the 'Test-Track-Treat' approach - this approach would hopefully stop a second wave of people developing the virus.
After reading most of the posts in this thread it appears that there all anti-Tory posters, what do you think labour would’ve been done better? If you can tell someone there **** then surely you need to have some idea as to who and what could do better?

Well Labour increased funding for the NHS which the tories cut again so there is a good chance we would have started with more PPE more equipment etc. Would Labour have wasted the time like the Tories did - we will never know but I think they are more likely to have acted quicker to protect lives Gordon Brown acted decisively in the financial crash and put together a plan which was a lot more coherent than the way the Tories have handled this. Would Corbyn have done better - I dont know. I suspect Starmer would though
