Like a few American comedy shows - Frasier is really clever, loved Cheers as well - quite liked the American office. Big Bang was really clever when it started but lost it when they all paired off.

Going back had a soft spot for Sgt Bilko , Soap, Mash and Benson :)

There are some great ones amongst the crap like Young Sheldon and 2 and a Half Men etc.

    Curb Your Enthusiasm
    Parks and Recreation
    Arrested Development
    It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
    The Simpsons (until series 9)

The main problem with American sitcoms is that they always pride quantity over quality. They'll happily flog a dead horse and drive a series into the ground with 10 series of diminishing returns rather than knowing when to stop like we do with things such as Fawlty Towers and The Office

What about The Simpsons? Greatest TV show of all time. Currently introducing my 7 year old to the whole back catalogue on Disney +. Obviously concentrating on the golden years of series 1 to 9

You aren't introducing your 7 year old with enough concentration of you ask me ;)

It started going right to ****. It's now an embarrassing shadow of its former self - nonsensical plots, no heart, awful "jokes" and a reliance on witless celebrity cameos.

Still good through the next 10 series or so before it really dropped off but those first 9 series are just absolute genius

Police squad was smart. My dad is like the shoe shine man off it in that whatever anyone is on about, he can reel obscure facts off about it.

Finally. People talking about the Simpsons in this thread without noticing that shh is been at the end of almost every Simpsons episode for the last 30 years

Spent many an hour watching it and seen pretty much every episode multiple times. Well, up to roughly the twentieth season as after that, it’s just not the same.

Did you know Young Sheldon's mam is the daughter in real life of Sheldon's mam in the big bang theory?

The gap is me being unable to find a superlative that does it justice.

Bilko is the only US comedy show that makes me laugh out loud. The Simpsons makes me chuckle a bit. Most of the others fall wide of the mark.

By contrast, if I had to list UK comedy shows that make me laugh, I'd be here all week.

You can certainly tell the average age group of some of the (old) folk in thread by the comedies they’ve chosen :D:D

I'm with you. I like very few American sitcoms/tv. And standup that I've seen is mostly awful.
