Absolutely, 100%, with bells on. I'm amazed at the number of people who watch a few TV programs, read a few newspaper articles, then suddenly elevate themselves to world authorities on what is going on and tell everyone else, in no uncertain terms and with a great deal of arrogance, what to think and do. Any intelligent person will form their own opinion, but keep an open mind for goodness sake - we are all just perceiving 'reality' through the lens of press conferences, TV and radio programs and newspaper articles. What you perceive to be 'true' could be shattered at any moment, you're just consumers of second-hand information like the rest of us.

Spot on. Opinion pieces presented as facts are rife at the moment. In my opinion.

I think for the World, it boils down to the Chinese Government letting the virus slip through their fingers - it was jetting off around the world for weeks -despite them knowing something bad was going on.
For the UK; Boris prevaricated and didn't put a stop to everything quick enough - despite others doing so - it was too late to stop it running amok by then.
You can be criticised for being over the top or too heavy handed but you will be damned for not doing enough or being too late.
Looking at my diary entry, BoJo shut everything down on Monday 22 March. If you look at the headlines from the 22nd, 800 folk died in Italy the previous day. Nobody can say we didn't see it coming. Being an Island made no difference; we have had over 190,000 people fly in from China since January, including thousands from Wuhan.
It is not about party politics, it is about a man called Boris Johnson, unfit to be Prime Minister.

It is political it can’t be anything else . The first policies were to protect as much as possible their Tory principles , hence the useless first two budgets . Even now behind the scenes it’s more about protecting each minister than getting decisions right .
It would also be political if a labour govt were in power. The only way to take the politics away was a coalition govt of the best people fir each job but the govt have refused to go down this route for political reasons .

I never said anything like that. I just said that no Tory has criticised the government anywhere I've seen - not on TV, Facebook, Twitter or on here (apart from Trixter, so fair play to him).

Even in this thread after I've posted what you quoted, that comment still applies. Instead of criticism aimed at the government, we've had "but China" and "But Corbyn". Both of these are different points - are each have their own talking points.

My question remains the same. Why dont Tories criticise what's going off? I'm a Labour support. I know when they've made a ******** of things. I'm big enough to spot flaws in Corbyns last campaign and Labour's work in my local area (Wath).

Why can a Tory not say bad things about Johnson? Is it pride? Are they scared to admit they've made a mistake? Is it a sense of wanting to be proven right - 'you lost get over it lol' ?

I honestly would love to know.

It doesn't matter whether it started in China, Mexico, USA or the UK. It is the job of the UK government to react to a potential threat in an appropriate and timely manner to safeguard the population. They have failed on this on many levels, from not quarantining incoming arrivals (still aren't), to be late with the lockdown, to be mixed with the messages, to failing to protect the vulnerable in care homes.

Taiwan (who are still technically at war with China) saw what was happening and reacted decisively. We didn't. They aren't blaming China, but people here (and in the USA) are trying to. Their citizens didn't like the lockdown, but they maintained it. Ours aren't.

Most independent media around the world are viewing the UK (and the USA) in a mixture of bewilderment and horror.

It has't stopped them before. The situation between the two is "interesting" in the full Chinese proverb meaning of interesting! and has been since the end of the Civil War.

Economically, there is a lot of trade between the two now, but the deputy leader of Taiwan is an epidemiologist by trade, so was in the best possible place to act quickly and save thousands of lives (population density is well over double the UK)

I know we’re in a “transition period” but I thought that, on January 31st, we had “taken control of our borders” - so why are they still “open”?
Why are we blaming the populace when only a small number of fools are ignoring the advice? The vast majority of people aren’t going around shaking hands with Covid victims, are they? There is irrefutable evidence that, whilst not participating in the first 5 National Emergency Meetings (COBR), the nation’s leader was attending a Tory fundraising event (auctioning off a game of tennis with him). Some people have been defending Johnson with “its normal for the PM to not attend the meetings” - rubbish. Blair & Brown apparently chaired them all when PM. Remember the floods & the “where’s Boris” stuff - he has form for this. Admit mistakes, apologise & move on - not the Tory way! I truly don’t know if they’re doing their best but, if it is, it’s not good enough!

And let’s not forget the ‘They’re all the same’ Tarring all politicians with the same brush is the nearest they’ll ever come to openly admit to Tory shortcomings.

"We'll all politicians lie" was a classic during the last election - when an independent source found that 88% of Tory Facebook adverts were lies, whereas Labour, Lib Dem and Green was considerably less.

So, "considerably less" then. Not "zero"

    So they lied as well?
    So they all lie?

    Thanks for confirming.

I was trying to not make this a Tory v Labour, but you'll find that the amount of lies Labour told according to the Independant study was zero. Nothing. Nada. Fck all.

    See the link below.

    Still feeling smug?

    Thanks for confirming.

All of this. The talk of reopening schools is daft. For myself unless staff have full PPE and they can show that social distancing will be maintained my kids aren’t going back to school.

Social distancing in schools is 100% impossible. Even if you only had say 5 children in a class and managed to sit them 2m apart, how does the teacher hand out and collect in books and equipment for 5 lessons without going near the child? How do children move around classrooms without passing near each other or touching any handrails on stairs or doors (given that lots of them are fire doors and can't be propped open)? How do the children collect their dinner from the lunchtime staff and where do they then put their used plates and utensils that someone has to collect and wash? How do they go to the communal toilets without touching the doors or flush? And that's just the things off the top of my head.

I know it’s completely impossible. Schools aren’t big enough. I suspect the only kids returning before September will be those at key points in their education with even their attendance being staggered in an attempt to do it. Can’t see many parents being happy for their kids to ‘take it on the chin’.

You should see the stockpiles of hand sanitizer and tissues being built up at our school over the last few days. No sign of visors, gloves or aprons yet. We sent all of our existing stock to local care homes, because they had none. Looking at end of May/beginning of June for earliest start date, if things improve that is.
