A couple of weeks ago I commented on relatives returning from Mexico. March 28th ( After being on lockdown in a hotel for over a week whilst there ) No guidelines given out on the plane. ( Although the flight crew said they were having to go into quarantine as a requirement for a period after landing) Checking out as any other normal flight would do. Both of them showed no symptoms. So 1 returned to work as a key worker. ( other a key worker but in the high risk category so only working from home ) One week later went into self isolation showing some symptoms. But thought it was the worsening of a problem not associated with coronavirus. 11 days later ( today) I have just spoken to that person on the phone from a Covid ward. Confirmed case. They're not in intensive care and hopefully should come through it ok. As they feel they are coming out at the end of it. My point being other countries were at that time putting anyone returning from abroad into quarantine. That person hasn't a clue where they've picked it up from. Be it work, picking up supplies or the flight. But has been following all the guidelines as put out. self distancing etc. Following the guidelines set out by the government that is. PS a colleague at work has in the last week or so . ( Also a key worker) returned to work after being holed up on a cruise ship. For ten weeks. WTF. are the government doing to stop this happening.
Agree Pal and even though I’ve not heard at work I can guess who this is ( or his wife), knowing home he’ll be ribbing the care staff and troughing as much snap as he can
I've had a suspected case of Covid-19 and my sick note runs out today. I'm still wheezing, night sweats and have a telephone appointment booked for tomorrow morning. No hint of a test. I contacted work on friday to say i'm still symptomatic and they seemed non plussed about it. They said ring a number and give em' your payroll number and they'll test you when you return to work. This has various stumbling blocks. In order to go back to work i've got to use two buses and two trains whilst still symptomatic. If I return to work and then test positive i'll be away from my family. If my Doctor doesn't give me another sicknote I risk travelling to work with headache, cough and sweats on public transport as I've already isolated through a family member and myself. Why can't they just test me?
Just to put things in perspective - I have many friends and relatives who work for the NHS. My sister in law is a GP. My nephew (her son) had a temperature the other week. She was unable to get him or herself tested. My mate's wife is a paramedic who has been dealing directly with Covid-19 patients. She herself showed symptoms, luckily mild. No test.
I thought you could keep getting the isolation notes for yourself if you continue to show symptoms after the 7 days are up? Hope you feel better soon.
Cheers. It's not great the inhaler they prescribed me helps a bit but I still get that breathless feeling. The worst part is the sweats and headache. I've been up and down since a week last Thursday. Some days the body just creeks doing simplest of tasks. I've been googling because my symptoms aren't following the designated pattern.
I suppose it's also the case that not everyone will experience the same symptoms. Be careful on the googling symptoms I once conceived myself I had permanently lost hearing in one ear as it didn't come back after a ear infection. Phoned doctors had a telephone appointment he got me to pinch my nose and blow and it came back! I felt a right tit. Back to you though it highlights the massive problems the lack of testing is causing.
That’s true but the big question is why not. We’ve had weeks and can still only manage 15000 a day but labs are sitting waiting to process them. Equipment was sent from universities and is sitting idle. Other countries are managing to test in large quantities but we can’t. Why not! Is it a political problem or one of competence or resources. Who is fixing it and what is the plan. What can anyone do to help. All I see is bland assurances that we will be testing 100000 per day by the end of the month but I am sorry I don’t believe it.
I'm starting to think they will have a big push and do 100,000 on the last day of the month and that will be the only day they do.
Yes Jud you do work or come into contact with that person. “ Nar then young un” Still grumpy but that’s par for the course. Stay safe mate..
It’s a disgrace that there aren’t enough tests for you! You are clearly unwell & need to be tested. As an nhs worker, you should be going near nobody until you know you’re ok & not infected. What the hell were the government doing to let this happen - I don’t want anyone giving me any “they’re doing their best, there’s a shortage!” They sleepwalked through this when others were sorting tests & equipment out. SD, don’t let them fob you off - stay safe at home until you’re ok & feeling well enough to work but insist on a test to ensure you don’t infect others. All the best!
Thanks to everyone for kind words. I'll try n' keep off google but I just wanted to put my case out there
