Wish he had been given a go at the manager's job, Mowatt could have been to him as he was to Danny!. Another great interview, thanks Ben.
Brilliant interview again mate some great insight from Redders. Really looking forward to the Luke Steele one.
Fantastic interview. Thanks Ben. Any plans to interview Super John in the future please.? Even though Redders supported Leeds as a lad, his love for Barnsley was clearly evident. Would like to see him back at the Club coaching our younger players. Reckon he would do a great job.
Can we do Super John's interview after the watershed? I'm sure he must still have a few more tales to tell!
I think an interview with Super John would be interesting. Like Hecky, he both played and managed the Club, but uniquely he made the transition from playing for us in the Premiership to then managing us in the league below after Danny left for S6, the season after. At first, I personally found it very difficult when I was appointed to a senior management role when in the early 80's my boss left Doncaster Council to go to work in Wakefield. On the Friday, I was " one of the lads" and on the following Monday I was in charge of ten colleagues in our Procurement section and had my own room. It was a massive learning curve and I had problems with one colleague who resented my appointment, which made the job harder. At the time he was appointed, we heard rumblings that there was at least one major incident between John and a member of the squad and eventually , John unfortunately left Oakwell. I would be very interested to learn more about his experiences, if of course he would be prepared to share them with us. During his time at the Club, its rumoured that he liked a laugh and the odd practical joke. I seem to recall one incident where either John or Jan Age Fjortoft was able to make a noise like a ringing phone. The squad were having a meal and all the lads were "in " on the joke apart from Darren Sheridan. Apparently every time the nearby phone "rang", a frustrated Shez kept getting up to answer it. It would be great to hear about the incident from someone who was there.
