An amazing insight from one legend of another. Thanks Ronnie for sharing it with us and Thanks Norman for the unbelievable memories..
Excellent heartfelt tribute. Didn’t know they were so close still after all these years. Two club icons and class blokes too....
"Hunter would that season lead Barnsley back into the second tier after a 21-year absence." That's the second time today I've read that on the club website. Can no one at the club work out that 1959 to 1981 is 22 years?
What a great tribute from one Barnsley legend to another. So very sad. Last nights stream with Higgy and tonight Ronnies kind words about Norman serves to emphasise why I chose to support the Reds. It truly is a very special Club with a genuine family feel to it. RIP Norman.
There is so much **** to deal with at the moment with heartache and death all around on a daily basis. But this news today about Norman has really cut me up. Feeling pretty down tonight about it all. What a sad loss.
Agree. Top bloke. Ronnie's words just drive that home. The world is really standing on the brink at the minute. Football at times seems so unimportant, until you think of the joy that the likes of Norman, Ronnie & Redders (interviewed again brilliantly tonight by @Loko the Tyke) have brought to us, often at times when our lives were going to **** & our only lift was something like football, music, or even just a night down the pub with our mates. All these things will come back at some point, but I expect not in the same way. Norman's team could beat anybody on their day. They had no fear & a bucketload of talent. Great times. It's **** being old most of the time, but being old enough to have seen that side is OK with me.
Fully agree with this in terms of how football is unimportant but important at the same time. Enjoyed Redders telling us about 'larger than life' Norman Hunter and these words from Ronnie back it up even more.
Yes, I thought Redders came over brilliantly today & he was so on point about the history of the club. He's a Leeds guy at the end of the day, just as Hendrie is a Middlesborough one, but they do hold a special place in their hearts for us. I've met them both a few times in random places & there is no pretence. What you brought out of the Redfearn interview was he has recognition here, in terms of the bar & his reputation he doesn't really have at Leeds & he knows that.
What you don't see in between questions is me staring at the screen all googly-eyed with my jaw dropped and wide open just listening. When he said he wished he'd not played for anyone else and finished his career at Barnsley I got upset all over again that he left for Charlton.
Says it all, those of us who saw him play and watched the team he created are lucky people, unbelievable times. RIP Norman.
