They are very good. Haven't read the new one yet. I usually pick all my books up from charity shops, so making do with what I have at the moment in the flat.

# me too, must be getting on for 20 years ago now and I can still remember how excellent they were. Still hoping he'll write some more. Staying on the dystopian sci-fi theme, and off the top of my head, more recently I've enjoyed Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel, and a great trilogy of books from a guy called Elliot Hall about a private eye (Felix Strange) operating in a near future USA run by hardline religious fundamentalists. I've got books waiting for me on the shelf about things like the Renaissance and the American Civil War but I keep getting distracted by guilty pleasures like the aforementioned, and the likes of Lee Child and Steven King. Mentioning the Civil War has reminded me - Days Without End by Sebastian Barry was a brilliant novel.
Working my way through Tim O'Brien back catalogue atm - The Things they carried, If I die in a combat zone, and just finished Searching for Cacciato. Interesting if you like semi autobiographical Vietnam war stuff.
He recently tweeted (before he got his account suspended) that he had feelings about writing Takeshi again that he'd not had in years.
Anyone honestly like the Classics ?? Dickens/Trollope/Austen/Brontes/ and dare I add Shakespeare boring and unreadable!
Yes to Jane Austin and Shakespeare if performed. No to Dickens and Trollope. Never read anything by the Brontes
In the past I've enjoyed Dickens, Austen, Brontes. Studied Shakespeare at school & like seeing the plays, but find it dull in terms of prose. Not something I visit much now TBH. I love social history, so everything from the Crown on Netflix to Hillary Mantel is more my thing these days.
Wuthering heights is one of my favourite books and I love all Dickens. Shakespeare is so much better when you see it performed

I've just finished a Grisham THE LAST JUROR, I picked up this book at a ward in Pinderfields Hospital for £1 and what a well spent £1, if you see this book on a second hand bookstall I would urge you to buy it, it really is a good solid story with all necessary ingredients to keep the reader engrossed for a good few sittings, perfect for the tedious hours of a lockdown.
I think I read that years ago it sounds familiar and I had a spate of reading his books in the mid 2000's when I was doing a lot of business travel I found them all quite good but after a while they did become a bit samey - as its at least 10 years since I read any of his though it might be worth revisiting and reading some of his later stuff
