I cannot remember names of people I meet on a fairly regular basis socially which can be embarrassing. I've always had a terrible memory for names. I even forgot the name of the woman I married when I met her at a friends birthday party when we all went to the pub. I had to ask my friend (at least twice) during the evening whilst fetching drinks to remind me what her name was. To add insult to injury I managed to pour a glass of Britvic 55 all over her. And when I phoned her a couple of days later had to refer to the piece of paper I had written it down on. I also store lots of useless trivia and factoids that I can retrieve (usually at inappropriate moments). I also for about 10 years used to teach people to drive. For a few years after that whenever I 'bumped into them' (not literally) I could recall how many lessons they had had, what their strengths and weaknesses were when learning etc but could rarely remember their names On the other hand....At 66 years of age I can learn and remember a full 2 hours+ 'set' ranging from pop, blues, folk Rock 'n roll & classical including some 'wot I wrote' over 40 years ago on vocals/piano & keyboards to a professional level without the need for music or lyrics in front of me. I just have a set list. Most musicians round here half my age seem to rely on iPads mounted in front of them or music stands !! I do take longer to fix new stuff in my memory nowadays though. I could knock off a new song... listen, program the relevant sounds, keyboards splits, & arrange them in a couple of days but nowadays it is a couple of weeks before they are performance ready. Really weird how the memory works for individuals....... and 'really weird' is how my wife often describes me as she is 100 certain I am 'on the spectrum' albeit low on the scale. I must have hidden talents and worry that she only hangs around in order to find out what they are and if she ever discovers them she'll be off!!

Little tip if you forget somebody's name. As you shake hands ( when you can) or fist pump or touch elbows, whilst smiling say " I'm sorry but I've forgotten your name". Invariably they will say their Christian name, at which point you say " oh I knew that, I meant your surname". It works every time.
Anybody else hitch to Dereham in 1967 to see the late great Jimi Hendrix.? Always recall my older mates meeting up with tents and bedrolls in Dunscroft and walking/ hitching it all the way there and back over four days. One of the best live shows they had ever seen. https://www.edp24.co.uk/news/fans-r...am-on-50th-anniversary-year-of-show-1-4858573
I always thought that my memory isn't that good, but reading this maybe it's not too bad!!! I definitely struggle with more recent memories though.
My general knowledge is pretty good, I can answer quite a few questions on University Challenge, but if my wife asks me what she has just been droning on about then I haven't got a clue. Is this normal?
It’s terrible trying to remember names of staff at a big school! You get introduced with their first name which you finally manage to remember and then you need to know their teacher name too when the kids tell you something about them (or vice versa if you’ve only ever seen them with a class and you don’t want to be referring to them as ‘Miss Whoever’ in the staff room).
I've started, fairly recently, to occasionally forget things I did a few moments ago. Like I pour a glass of water, put it down, toddle off to do something, then go and pour myself another glass of water. It's happened to me 2 or 3 times now; it's a bit scary.
I watched a film last night for 90 minutes before I realised I'd seen it before. Then I remembered the ending, which turned out to be the same.
That's the kind of thing my dad does. Alternatively he will fall asleep after about 5 mins and snore through the rest.
