I am old Barnsley. Born before the war in a house with lino on the floor and neither electric nor indoor toilet. But blessed to be raised by mining folk within a culture of humour, self reliance and respect for others. Combined with State education to instil an ethic that equipped us to transact with whomever or whatever we encountered. With no regard for ‘belly achers’ who do little more than decry others. And wail from the rooftop should anyone mock their ‘origins’ or ‘education.’ But don’t hesitate to cite ‘privelege’ or ‘Eton’ to disparage our Prime Minister. Apparently forgetting that when Parliament decided we should be ignored, he took them on to deliver our Brexit! And fulfilled his promise to activate projects designed to bring balance to our country! Then quelled an internal revolt to install a dedicated Chancellor and Health Secretary. A timely act supporting the axiom ‘come the moment come the man.’ And despite his own concerns about relatives and an imminent baby, he is doing everything he can. But despite ensuring that our strategy is being devised by leading medics, some seek to blame him for anything and everything! Done by keyboard saboteurs. So won’t some of you restore my faith in the principles that built Barnsley, by joining me in expressing the support he deserves!
No. I will never salute anyone whose Conservative ideology is aligned with that which intentionally and systematically dismantled the Barnsley mining community you just lauded as raising you.
Am only a young un’ so to speak, a can vaguely remember the strikes but no where near to form any opinion, I’m fully aware what a then Tory government did to the area and it many instances men, woman and families never recovered but at what point do you keep living in the past? Surely a new person In charge some 30 years on can’t be held to blame for something that happened which he had no control over, if someone does good then why not offer some form of praise if it’s required. I’m a non voter btw so I’m not kissing anyone’s arse I’m just interested in others views
Last time I checked it was the Tories through austerity which cut the NHS to the bone whilst destroying social care for all. Also NHS workers and volunteers still haven't got adequate PPE. This crisis won't be resolved by politicians, it's down to the population to help each other and pressure the politicians to do the right thing. At present I'm seeing a PM react to people pressure. I'm not a fan of most mainstream journalists but they've actually kept up the pressure in most part whilst others have called them scaremongerers. Let's not forget we've had 10-12 weeks to prepare for this. Only last week did Hancock start putting in requests respirators and PPE.
We'll always be the enemy within. Working class workers and communities united with a shared purpose will always be a danger to those with money, influence and power.
Ps Installed a puppet Cgancellor you mean who’s had to have three goes at an emergency budget and still hasn’t quelled any uncertainty . Even Trump only needed one go . and by the way his first attempt was laughable .
It is interesting that our prime minister is imploring the population to do exactly as he says. Last year when the then prime minister implored her party members to do what she said one person amongst a number did not heed her pleas. Does anyone remember who that was? Hmmmmmm.
What’s he done good ? He’s followed every country’s example that had it before us but later ,nothing more nothing less and I would say every one of our politicians whatever party would have taken most of these actions . The first measly budget tells you all you need to know what he thought would f our people . It was only when there was a backlash over it he decided to have another and when there was a backlash over that another and even this is controversial . And by the way other politicians were telling him to do this so don’t think all this was Boris idea even his father were contradicting him . He’s done nothing more than any other minister or opposition MP would have done and probably less in some cases . he saw this coming and did little at first even though other countries were warning him and his fellow politicians were begging him .
