It looks like an old malaria drug called Chloroquine may work as an anti-viral for Coronavirus. Trump being Trump has jumped the gun with it and said it's been approved when it hasn't though. It's got to be tested first. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-...ld-treatment-malaria-key-beating-coronavirus/
Already been tested in Italy, China and South Korea with successful results, it’s not a very nice drug though and can cause some really horrible side effects and is very easy to overdose on. Hydroxychloroquine might be the better option, it too has been tested with some success, it still has some side effects and can be easily overdosed on but the side effects are less significant. Main downside is it is more expensive to produce.
Im not sure if it was ever banned but the military used to use it. It was pretty special stuff..... hallucinations, sickness, no sleep and the sweats etc. Once a week malaria Monday’s was a day everyone looked forward to! But still if it works in this case get us all a handful
Totally agree the most horrid and weird drug I've ever taken. You had to make sure you had an early night, night before taking, some of dreams I had were either ******* weird or totally **** me up. Woke up screaming or crying a few times, did the job though!
So does that mean my gin and tonic (containing quinine ) is something I should be drinking a lot more of?
I think drugs are not licensed for specific medical conditions, once a drug has been 'passed' and licensed it can be used/tried for any condition.
Took it for 2 years, no side effects at all. Recommendation used to be to not go past 2 years as it can damage the liver/kidney[?]. If your worried, just drink lots of Gin &Tonic. There's quinine in tonic. True, but not serious medical advice before anyone starts.
There are some serious side effects to Chloroquine - diarrhea and sickness are common, with hearing and vision loss being rare. And the doses specified are far above what you would take for malaria.
