Fans are invited to attend an evening with Dane Murphy next Tuesday from 7pm. Free to attend for all supporters. Will do the usual post about questions nearer the time but a good one to have in the diary if you’re free and can make it.
He said in the interview with Radio Sheffield that mistakes had been made and he realised communication was important and was planning on being more open or words to that effect. That’s what my brain heard anyway.
I’ll call it now, will be a total waste of snap, same old sheite and nothing substantial coming from these owners. This kids a total mouthpiece and not a very convincing one at that.
The board have realised that more communication is needed at just the exact time that the early bird offer will be making it's way to us. Pathetic.
BBS: Do we even have a CEO? BBS: We want Ben and GG back! BBS: The club never speak to us! BBS: Never mind an evening with Struber. When will someone from the board speak to us, like that Robert Sugden guy. They’ll never do an evening! Barnsley FC: Here’s an in depth interview with Radio Sheffield. We’re also attending a free to attend evening for all supporters. BBS: Rubbish! Boo! Pathetic!
I don’t know. Coincidental or a realisation/desire to improve something that wasn’t working? You’re probably right, considering this is a board that want us to yo-yo between League One and the Championship. I don’t have an opinion either way. I just get bored of the constant negativity, especially when people shout for something, get what they shouted for, but then continue to moan anyway. Feels a bit depressing to me.
It's depressing to me too - mainly depressing how this season has gone. The Board have managed to turn off many of our fans - and have done this after one of the most enjoyable seasons ever. What we did last season was fantastic - one of my favourite ever 12 months as a fan. And yet it's all gone belly up in double quick time. That's what's depressing. What will happen in this meeting is what happens in all of them. A few pre prepared questions with autocue answers, with nobody prepared to ask or answer any of the important questions. Questions that have been raised by many posters in previous threads on here that have advertised these evenings before. I wish I didn't have to be depressed, but it's The Board that have caused it.
Maybe I’m the definition of a happy clapper but this season has been far from depressing to me. Generally the football we’ve played has been positive, I feel like we’ve given teams a game almost everytime we’ve entered the field, and at no point has it felt as negative as the last time we got relegated. That was a painful season. Even Reading on Saturday, for all the huffing and puffing, wasn’t a terrible experience. Doesn’t mean I don’t think we’ve made some awful decisions at Board level and on recruitment though. Not enough people go to these meetings to be honest. It’s nothing like you describe, in my opinion, but the folk that go don’t have that burning desire to grill anyone who attends. Those that want answers and have questions aren’t there to ask them, follow up on them, and challenge the answers that are given
Oh, come on, Loko. When the club was signing all the players last Summer, you couldn't stop Paul Conway talking up the club. Unfortunately, once the season started and those same players were struggling big time, the club said nothing. Then they sacked Stendel and again the statement from the club was nothing short of pathetic. As the season progressed, the silence from the club was deafening. Just because they've just done an interview now & had one fan meeting with Struber doesn't balance out the months of refusal to talk. You can't blame some of the BBS being somewhat cynical now they've started to communicate. The fan base wants to be optimistic, have faith in the club's future direction, with everyone singing from the same page. However, quite a percentage of fans feel badly let down by the club, having little trust when it does venture out from it's bunker to say anything. A few well chosen words from the CEO won't alter that. This breakdown between fans and the club's hierarchy is 100% the fault of the club, NOT the fans or the BBS.
Don’t dispute any of that. You’re 100% right. I never blamed the fans or the BBS? But if you want the club to open up those communication channels, and you’ve slated them for being so poor in their comms, it feels hard work and energy zapping to then keep slating them and blaming them surely? Moan, complain, criticise, for all the things you mention, but asking for something and then getting it feels like a moan for moanings sake, to me.
I see your point but disagree - this season has been worse for me due to the position we were in at the end of last season. We were in a great place to attack this league, but it was wasted. And I suppose I'm not really in a place to comment on these meetings as I've never been able to go - but I think it's only fair that fans who don't attend are given the info- especially when feedback differs depending who is making notes. As for questions, could you ask the following.... - When Mr Stendel left, we were told that we released a 21 word statement for legal reasons. At a later date, Mr Conway then stated that this was done out of respect for Mr Stendel. Which one was it and who was lying? - When does the phrase 'keeping in touch' mean, regarding contact with Mr Struber whilst Mr Stendel was still head coach. Does Mr Murphy feel that this was fair on Mr Stendel? - What is the current position of Bambo Diaby? Is he suspended by the FA? Is he suspended by the football club? Do we have a date in mind for him to be found guilty or cleared? - Is Mr Murphy happy with our transfer dealings over the past 12 months? --- Many thanks.
It's up to the club to build the bridges which should never have been torn down in the first place. The comments yesterday from the CEO are the first step in the right direction. But it's only one step. For years I've been labelled a Happy Clapper and it didn't bother me one iota. I'm not one who would normally react against the club. But I'm not going to pretend self inflicted problems don't exist. If fans attend this meeting, what sort of answers will they be given? When the CEO last attended one in a similar set up, he wouldn't even give an estimated figure of how many season tickets had been sold! At the moment, it seems to me that I appear to living in the old fairy tale "The Emperor's New Clothes", with the club being the Emperor and having to listen to various sycophants praising his outfits!
