https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51556872 they should make it like goals, IE the whole of the ball.... so the whole of the body should be beyond the defender.
well it just makes sense to me Dave. I would also like them to draw a line across the pitch thus quartering the pitch, and then offside would only happen in the final quarter, or even make it to last third's But offside when a guy is a couple strides over the halfway is stupid.
I don't think it will take away the controversy, they'll still be zooming in on armpits like they do now. I think the best way personally is to make the line on the ground thicker. Or even easier, if the person in the control room needs to look at it more than twice it isn't clear and obvious so go with the on field decision. VAR has ruined the enjoyment of watching football for me, cant remember last time I watched a prem game start to finish
Do you remember the Watney cup I think you could only be offside within 18 yards of the goal line IIRC
no , can't say as I do. But it would make for a better game IMHO. I also would like football to employ the sin bin as in rugby and ice hockey. Also the blood injury thing as in cricket and rugby.
For me the answer is a sensor in every player's boots and a sensor in the ball to detect impacts. Get some fancy software and you can have an objective decision as to whether the attacker's feet were ahead of the defender's within seconds. No room for argument, no excessive delay.
All you've done there is move the line forward a bit, there would still be the same controversy as there is now only it would be "a fraction of his nose was onside"..... Personally, I think the whole offside law should be rewritten. My version would be:- Offside only in the last 18 yards of the pitch with 2 linesmen who only stay within the bounds of each penalty area and thus have a greater chance of keeping up with the play. 2 other linesmen would patrol between the two penalty areas and half-way to decide on throw-ins and fowls etc. Technology to inform the penalty area linesmen when a forward pass is made. No need for VAR to interfere with offside decisions. Simple.
Said that on this board 6 months ago because whatever solution anybody comes up with there will always be controversary so either do away with it or just leave every thing up to the on field officials and get rid of var.We have managed for the last 100yrs.Il get ready now for the armchair fans slagging me off.
It's a nonsense. So the linesman now has to look for clear daylight between the attacker and the defender. There's still going to be a line, a grey area, that just becomes even more blurred with flailing arms and legs. The offside rule is fine as it is, but because of VAR it's being scrutinised and implemented wrongly. At the end if the day if the attackers big toe is in front of the defenders big toe when the ball is passed, well, he's offside. Offside is offside .
Completely agree. The decisions that led to people calling for technology was when a goal was scored and you could tell pretty much straight away if it was offside. Get rid of the lines, and if you can't tell it's offside from a replay, then it's not clear and obvious and you go with on field decision.
For me 2 things need to happen: 1. VAR appeals should be made by the respective managers. Each team has 2 appeals. If an appeal is upheld then the appeal can be used again. Similar to cricket. Stupid marginal shouts would be unlikely to be called, unless it was in the last 10 minutes of a game & the appellant team was losing, in which case they would have not had to try it on earlier. 2. For me a phases of play system is needed for offsides, where you can only go back 2 or 3 passes in a move for VAR to overrule a goal.
Terrible, when we played as kids, ‘goal Raking’’ was banned it always spoiled the game. Any body can stand on the line just waiting to kick it in. Another observation was ‘Goal Rakers’ never seemed to have any mates and that’s what they wanted to score all the time to get attention.
Good god its going to be more complicated than einstiens theory of relativity. One thing its certainly been more contravertial than when we just had 3 officials.
