They haven't as far as i can tell. Wasted a lot of money on a large quantity of poor players which have resulted in some awful results and performances.
asset stripping /ˈasɛt ˌstrɪpɪŋ/ noun the practice of taking over a company in financial difficulties and selling each of its assets separately at a profit without regard for the company's future.
I can see them being similar, actually. We’ve brought in a lot more players than we’ve sold. Plus apparently £1 million for Struber. Even if there is a significant profit on transfers though, it’s not free to run a football club and ticket money is a drop in the bucket. We were losing something like £2 million a year under Patrick Cryne. A lot of that is the academy costs. I’m not defending the owners, I think they’ve been naive and stupid at times (a lot of times), but I don’t buy that they’re asset stripping.
Perhaps not intentionally asset stripping, that might be a strong way to put it... But they've sold our best players and brought in ***** that have cost a lot less. Money in their pocket. We should be protesting and trying to force them out. It's sad that so many of us keep going in hope.... They will deliver nothing but disappointment.
But as owners a cash balance on the balance sheet would typically increase the saleable value of the club £ for £. The money could stay in the club but if they chose to sell they could get the value of any cash through sale proceeds. One of many ways for owners to extract value without a dividend payment. Their approach at Nice was to load the club with debt with a penal interest rate. These guys aren't here out of love of Barnsley FC. If their experiment in player trading does go wrong this could result in a real dilemma for the 20% minority shareholder.
We’ve always been a selling club. We have to be due to our size and the larger size of our local rivals. Some folk seem to forget that..... If people think this is asset stripping, then they are wrong. Or they have to accept that the term can be applied to the owners from the last 50+ years......
That doesn't mean the club's money is theirs or their money is the club's. They are legally distinct entities.
